What is your favorite self love practice?

During this time those of us who are single are bombarded with coupley things. I love seeing love and toxic free relationships but I also need to make time for myself and my mental health during this couple holiday.

What are some of your favorite self love practices?

Mine include: a hot bath, yoga, meditation, reading, binge watching rupauls dragrace, and journaling.

I booked a long-ass massage this weekend and I'm really looking forward to it :relaxed:

  • Cinnamon rolls or croissants or both. Making the dough is a several hours project because you have to chill (in a fridge for 30 mins), then roll said butter/dough three separate times. It's somehow the delicious equivalent of 80 croissant layers. Bake and enjoy.

I've been working out, I'm down 5+ pounds, and dammit I'm gonna enjoy some good food this weekend. No, Cupid, you're not invited.

@Sideon yeah you pretty much have to scratch make the croissant dough I tried the supermarket croissant dough product once to make baklava one time ... it didn’t work

  • edited February 2021

@cuddlerforu24 Store bought croissants do not work if one is trying to make a balaclava as well. The pandemic taught me that.

Folks I just want to take this out of context, because I nearly wet myself.

Store bought croissants do not work if one is trying to make a balaclava .... The pandemic taught me that.

  • @FunCartel if your going to make that out of filo dough , try wrapping it around your face and stick your head in the oven ... that might work

  • @squeakytoy that sounds so nice!!! Now you have my looking up massages places open during pandemic.

@Sideon I love cinnamon rolls!!! I saw this cute little tutorial on how to shape them into hearts. Store bought for me but I'm inspired by your ambition! And congrats on your healthy journey! Treating our physical bodies right is self care at the core.

@CuddleDuncan 😂😂😂 I saw what you did there

@squeakytoy totally agree! keep a membership at one of the massage chains where I'm at and usually book one 2-hour session a month with the hot stones and everything. Always look forward to it haha

@SafeSpace99 What did @CuddleDuncan do? The balaclava is a play on words of the previous post on baklava. Obvious that a ski mask is not the same and he thought it was funny. Unless you are confusing him quoting my post as him making that jest.

Some of my favourite types of self love would be a nice relaxing bath with epsom salts, chilling out to Lo-Fi beats, making a delicious and healthy home-cooked meal, and cuddling with my roommates’ dog and cat.

I also consider self love to be the ugly stuff too. Too many times I feel the term “self love” has been made out to be simply a consumerist venture of “treat yo self”. An example of what I’m talking about in regards to “ugly stuff” would be me diving deep into whatever negative or ambiguous emotions I’m feeling, and really sitting with them. Looking at the things I don’t like in the mirror, and accepting them. Doing the tasks that I feel I don’t have the energy for anyway, and feeling positive about it when I do. Pushing myself, really.

  • Lots of dirty self talk

  • @Catloaf I totally agree that self love is also stripping away the bs and getting shit done that you need to get done. Like paying bills, being responsible is a form of self love to me. Going to therapy, eating healthy, setting boundaries are all forms of self love. Self love also comes in every day "mundane" things.

Thank you so much for sharing and reminding us of that!

  • @pmvines 😂😂😂 thank you for that gem of a response.

  • @valkyrievixen
Yeah this is pretty much what my weekend with myself looks like

  • 😂😂😂 @pmvines LOL

I do wish we had the ability to “like” or “laugh” at posts without having to create a whole post just for an appreciative LOL...

So now I feel like I need to disclose some self lovin’ activity... 🤔🥰

I’ll stay safe with just saying that I love competition and thrive having it... so I am infamous (like more than famous...IN-famous) for making a competition out of everything. And I really do mean everything. 😂 Life is just more fun to me that way. And I’m aware that not everyone agrees. Haha

  • Cedar hot tub, not getting up until I feel like it, buying just the right teddy bear, making a Spotify dance list with the funkiest tunes that exist that are all like, aren't I just God's gift to the earth.

  • One of my New Year’s goals was to let myself have exercise/outdoor time EVERY DAY even if i’m super busy...it’s been life changing. I feel so much better!

Food: Flavored coffee plus half and half, good chocolate, bagels!
Other stuff: good smelling hand lotion. Going to bed on time even if I have homework left.
Mentally: not comparing myself to others in any way ✨

  • Buying my favourite candy. Just lately it's liquorice allsorts.

Making pizza at home. The smell of it permeating throughout my apartment is wonderful. Popping open the oven, seeing the melted cheese, and grabbing onto the pan with my bare hands and screaming continuously for several minutes is just bliss.

  • [Deleted User]DarrenWalker (deleted user)

@DarkLordChungus, you dodo. How are those burns, by the way? You wouldn't run cold water on them, so....

Surprising nobody, I like to wrap myself in a heavy robe, stuff my feet into a pair of slippers, brew a hot mug of tea, open a bag of mini croissants, and settle down with an enormous book. ND's a lot colder than CO. I'm a child of the desert, man—I need my heat.

    I also like to sing.

  • Aggghhhh, feel your pain @DarkLordChungus... and am a member of @DarrenWalker's Dodo Club. It was not long ago that I, forgetting that I heated something on a particular burner, actually put my hand ON that burner. I don't even remember why. Why does someone even grab a burner, never mind a freshly used one? I have to chalk it up to some in-the-shadows desire to destroy myself. My daughter was here at the time and said she had never heard a more feral scream come out of a human.

  • Making pizza at home. The smell of it permeating throughout my apartment is wonderful.

    I just realized I haven't had a pizza in 3 years.
I just realized I lost over 80 pounds in 3 years.

    What a strange coincidence!

  • [Deleted User]DarrenWalker (deleted user)

@Siberian76: Ooh, that ain't no coincidence.

Also non-coincidentally, I've gained some weight since moving to North Dakota! (Though in my case this is probably good, since I was pretty much literally starving in CO and was seriously underweight.)

  • ND's a lot colder than CO.

Fargo is about an hour and half drive away from me -maybe we could meet some day. You guys are grabbing all the heat wave with -15/-30 !!!

We just crossed the -40 again (-26/-41).

    @Siberian76: Maybe!

And I know—we've had an unusually mild winter so far this year, or so the native Fargons tell me.

  • Ooh, that ain't no coincidence.

I was being sarcastic. Of course, removing pizza completely from my diet made it realistic to loose weight.
On another hand, simply removing my ex from my life accomplished that in itself, as she was devouring pizza 3-4 nights a week.

It's very hard not to eat pizza if it's in the house every other day.

Bringing this full circle back to the self love, I now can finally stand my ground and demand that sh*t doesn't cross into the house even if it is attached to a female.

  • And I know—we've had an unusually mild winter so far this year, or so the native Fargons tell me.

Yep. Few days ago I was told the same when the topic of -50 wind-chills came up.

By a native Californian, of all people (!), who was in Fargo, 3 years ago, when wind-chills crossed -65 F barrier.

I was attempting to argue that if I can walk my Husky at -50, that -65 is doable (if painful). Boy, did I hit a nerve :)
