I’ve heard that during the Cold War it was reported that nuclear warhead destination coordinates were scrambled when UFOs were seen near underground launch sites. I can only think that some alien species know enough to save us from ourselves.
I think it’s our responsibility to do what each of us can do to save our planet from total destruction. We can each choose to be kind to other humans, other species, and the environment.

That is simply not true. It's not even believable.
For start, a nuclear apocalypse severe enough to kill or prevent reproduction of every single human being requires thousands of nuclear warheads. Since New START it's not clear that there are enough active warheads in the world to destroy humanity. Even if they were deployed in the optimal pattern to do so.
Even if there are enough warheads, one person could only have control of one country's arsenal. And with the end of the Cold War, there has been a conserable reduction in pre-targetting of warheads. The UK's warheads, for example, are not currently targetted at anything. One person cannot issue a set of mad targetting orders and then order the missiles to be fired, the procedures are too complex. And bear in mind that detonation altitudes are selected for local destructive effect, not global consequences.
At the very most, one person might be able to initiate the launch of one country's pre-targetted missiles. (This would still require the most extraordinary of cirumstances, perhaps the President murdering everybody in the room, and convincing those outside the room that they were all still alive.) Such a launch would obviously devastate the targets, and might indeed have global consequences. But even if you kill 7,400,000,000 people, there will be 100,000,000 still alive.
How many nuclear bombs do you have to drop on, say, China to kill every hunter-gatherer in the Amazon?

I don’t make any assumptions. I follow the evidence.
Considering the billions of galaxies and billions of stars with billions of planets, I’d find it hard to believe that we’d be the only life in the universe. Whether there are other forms of life that have developed the technology to travel thousands of light years and found our planet out of all the billions out there - no idea.
I think the reason many Earthlings assume that Extraterrestials would be hostile is because they are afraid they will do the same thing that colonizers here when they encountered people who were less technologically developed.
If some day we encountered beings from another planet, I would think it to be very interesting. I would be very curious about it.
