Ice Cream Flavors

What are some less common ice cream flavors that you have tried, or would like to try?

I've tried

• Cinnamon crunch with cayenne pepper sprinkled on top: quite amazing
• Vanilla with peanut butter and brown sugar mixed in: fantastic
• Blue cheese: It would have been better if it was higher quality blue cheese
• Homemade buttercrunch: (mixin was made with corn flakes mixed into a boiled butter/sugar base) brings back memories of my mom

I'd love to hear what others have tried, and I might try some myself. 🙂❤️

Sweet Garlic, at the Gilroy Garlic Festival.

    Surprisingly nice.

  • @CharlesThePoet That actually sounds good!

  • I make ice cream and sorbet.

I really like Italian plum ice cream and sorbet. Beautiful rich purple color and delicious.

Home made fresh ginger ice cream is amazing.

I made jackfruit ice cream but did not care for it so I melted it down and added ginger and lime, then it was good.

Green apple with fresh tarragon sorbet is fantastic. I would suggest adding fresh tarragon to home made apple sauce for a nice change of pace.

My favorite sorbet is white peach with rose water.

I made oatmeal stout ice cream once but did not care for the bitterness in it. Hot fudge sauce did not cover it up.

Made Zinfandel ice cream recently, that was very good.

My favorite ice cream is, believe it or not, doughnut ice cream. I heard about it in an interview with a woman who wrote a book of ice cream recipes. I thought it sounded disgusting. However, a friend was coming to visit and I knew it would be perfect for him so I made it. It’s fantastic! It’s very creamy and tastes just like a glazed doughnut. I made caramelized bacon bits as a topping just to go all out.

I’ve also made pandan ice cream, which is delicious, and ube - purple yam - ice cream, which is quite popular in the Phillipines but not so much here.

@CharlesThePoet, I’ve heard they have garlic ice cream but have never had an opportunity to try it and I’m afraid to commit a whole batch to it.

  • @Babichev The ginger and lime sounds really good!

  • Red bean and vanilla with just a smidge of chocolate syrup!! Yummerific!!!

    @Babichev

It was pretty amazing. First in a "Wow, this is actually good" sort of way, then in a "I have never tasted anything like this" way.

I recommend finding an online recipe and giving it a shot. I presume it uses caramelized, maybe even black, garlic.

And if you botch a batch, meh... all part of SCIENCE!

  • While not as unusual as some of the ones mentioned above, I've always enjoyed Rum Raisin, which is generally not a more common flavor for the most part.

  • @parkwayvisual I thought of that, but it slipped my mind when I was making my list. 🙂

  • Pistachio is my favorite. Not terribly unusual, but most people I know don't like it.

  • @Mela_B I like pistachio too. One very popular flavor that I DON'T like is mint chocolate chip.

  • I do not like mint chocolate chip, either.

A friend of mine made spearmint ice cream once from fresh spearmint. He boiled the spearmint in syrup, strained it, then made ice cream with it. It was fantastic.

I love pistachio and one of my goals is to make pistachio ice cream. I live near an Italian neighborhood and at Christmas they carry pistachio butter from Sicily. I’m waiting for that.

I’ve got some frozen persimmon in the freezer that’s waiting for me to get to it.

I tried making sorghum ice cream once. I did not care for it.

One of the great things about making ice cream or sorbet is that if you don’t like the way it turned out, you can melt it down and tweak it. Can’t do that with baking!

  • My goto is Spumoni.
It's a mixture of heavenly Chocolate, Pistachio, and Cremolatta. Yum 😋

  • I made grapefruit champagne sorbet, once upon a time.
Also a fan of pistachio ice-cream.

@Babichev - your list looks DELICIOUS.

  • I recently tried ube (purple yam) ice cream. I was surprised at how much I liked it, seeing as I don’t like sweet potatoes at all

  • I love President's Choice Watermelon. Tastes kinda like a watermelon bombe dessert. If you're in Canada or have the chance to come, try it!

  • I am a fan of mint chocolate chip- has to be the green kind- or mint cookies and cream is amazing too. @Babichev your friend's spearmint recipe sounds very good!

@JoyfulHeart vanilla, peanut butter and brown sugar> Yes please! Maybe a sprinkle of pecans?

Chocolate lover and peanut butter mix, so that's always good. Raspberry and chocolate is a good combo (coffee wise too!). Just tried a mix of cheesecake bites with peanut butter sauce with vanilla ice cream which was divine as well.

Coffee ice cream with cookie crumble haven't had in while. @parkwayvisual rum raisin sounds delish!

  • Apricot ice cream. It occurred to me recently that I’d never seen apricot ice cream, but I’d like to try it if I could find it. Or I might just have to make it myself. 😋

  • Ben and Jerry's has a Jimmy Fallon Late Night flavor every year, and one year it was all the late night snacks in vanilla ice cream. Peanuts candy and normal stuff like that, but it also had little balled up chunks of potato chips. Tried it out of curiosity and it was really good! Wish it would come back.

The time is nigh as it is getting closer to autumn, but anything pumpkin/cinnamon/nutmeggy hard rocks my world. And you do not see it much anymore but in the late 60s and 70s lemon chiffon was the pinnacle of an orgasmic ice cream interlude.

  • I just had piñon/ pine nut ice cream paleta and it was amazing! Never even knew pine cones produced nuts.

  • @applepie55 I bet you were thinking before that that pine nuts were people who chained themselves to pine trees!

  • I had an idea for one than I'm pretty sure I'll never try. It was inspired by rum raisin, and my thought was "Alcoholic beverage and dried fruit? Beer prune!" I was young then... 🤔😉

  • There is a local shop from my home state that has a vegan ice cream flavor called Black Pearl! It’s coconut and charcoal if I remember correctly. I would eat it with their lavender honeycomb flavor. Amazing paring.

There is a trendy, hipster ice cream place in London that does all kinds of kooky flavours, and those things are HUGE

  • Bills be damned!! I'm booking a flight to London!!!! ✈

  • edited August 2021

@quixotic_life no need to go to London. The Yard is all over the US (primarily the Southeast as my first encounter was in Hattiesburg, Mississippi) but I know there is one in Phoenix as well. Here is the link with pics.

  • [gasp!!] Eeeee!!! I've got plans in the works to go to Phoenix in six months!! And there's one in Alabama too?!! @FunCartel ~ This is all very exciting [and dangerous] information to have!!

  • I forgot, I’ve made lavender ice cream. It’s special.

I’ll have to make apricot some time. I don’t know why I haven’t thought of that.

  • [Deleted User]CharlesThePoet (deleted user)

Done well, a peach-lavender ice cream could be stunning.

  • I might have to try that.
