Delete Messages Option

Hey there, what would the pros and cons be to deleting messages (as long as the original message sent would still be able to be seen by moderators)

I had a really niche situation happen tonight and it would have been so relieving if there was a delete message button rather than re explaining or backtracking

I can see if someone sent something rude or inappropriate- you would want proof, but with the moderators still being able to see it that would mean there is still accountability, right?

  • If someone starts deleting what they say to me I may give them a warning and if they continue, I let them know I want to stop the conversation with them. Because that's shady to me. So I'm not for it. Though if it is something really sensitive then maybe a solution could be found for it and limit the person to like once every 3 months of rewind button if the person wants to undo within a limited time and perhaps have it go to a moderator to keep it hidden at their discretion. Though I can see allowing it full force leading to all sorts of issues like the one you mentioned. Especially on a platform like this where there are people we have yet to vet and some of them who have non platonic intentions. Not just the moderators, though the person who received/was sent that message has the right to know too and have that evidence should the person be found to be shady later on.

When someone starts messaging me again, especially if it's been long and we barely know each other, I want to be able to look back and reassess my comfort/compatibility with that person. Is it someone who crossed lines with me before in messaging? Then I want to be able to know.
