Dish: The buttermilk pie from Les Sisters, a restaurant in the SFV where I grew up.

Place: A small town on the Spanish Mediterranean Coast.

Book: The magical unicorn land where George R R Martin or Patrick Rothfuss actually finishes the next @&$%#!!! book in their series.

Movie: Not really a movie person. I guess I’d love to see a full documentary about what Major League Baseball clubhouse/equipment managers do on a daily basis. (I might have to make that movie myself.. )

Oh, Buttermilk pie. When cool weather returns and I don’t mind turning on the oven, I should make that.

My recipe came from Mrs. Glore who was my neighbor when I was homesteading in the Ozarks in the early 70s. She typed it out on an index card for me, I still have it. I’d never seen or heard of it outside of the Ozarks until maybe 10 years ago I saw someone mention it. I call it poor man’s cheesecake.

What do I crave? Nothing, really, except for human companionship.

    Okay, maybe some chocolate.

  • I used to stop at Schlotzsky's Deli once a week or so on my way home from work and get a barbeque chicken pizza, but since I've been working from home, I have not eaten one. They are so good.

Dish: Whatever Noma is serving today

Place: The dry valleys of Antarctica

Book: Living 45 minutes from the British Library and in a world of Amazon I can't reasonably write anything here. However, I have wanted to read Thucydides' History of the Peloponnesian War (in translation) for about 15 years. Yes, I do have a copy, but reading books is hard for me for ... reasons I should probably spend more time discussing in therapy.

Movie: None, but for a very long time I was keen to see Blade Runner. A lot fell into place after I did. Indeed, I consider it the final moment of my basic education.

@CharlesThePoet are you thinking of a particular small town, or a generically picturesque example of the type?

Edit - I found writing this post surprisingly exposing.

@CuddleDuncan No place specific. I have never been there for longer than driving through from Marseilles to Barcelona when I was part of a security escort.

Gorgeous country, even at 95 KPH.

One of my dreams is to settle into one of the smaller to mid sized towns in that area, preferably in a loft or something over a tapas bar. Play music at night, sleep on a balcony during the day.

  • Off to Las Vegas in a couple weeks…first stop after leaving the airport

Dish: There's a place called The Meat Cellar nearby that I haven't been to yet. I don't often have a good steak and whiskey but this looks like the place to do it.

Place: I really want to visit Joshua Tree. It's also close by, and I almost went out there until covid happened. Once things calm down I think a good camping trip is in order.

Book: I'm with @CharlesThePoet with Patrick Rothfuss. The Doors of Stone has been ten years in the making... so far...

Movie: My wife said she hated Midsommar for its pointless artfulness. We often disagree on those types of movies, like The Green Knight. I like artfully done movies even if they're lacking in other ways.

  • @cuddles_ndream It's funny that place is not that far from me and those burgers look great. I think I may have to go one of these days.

  • ā¤Sometimes we just need a cheeseburger in paradise

  • Yes to a good burger or a good steak- love it!

I’ve been wanting to visit Joshua Tree for some time now. Other bucket list items: Redwood Forest, and to see the Northern Lights in Alaska

  • A lot of amazing - thanks guys !! @jasmineluv a really good burger or steak is always at the top of my list lol, @Nickoli you are sooo lucky !!! I almost went yesterday & again couldn’t make it, gonna try my absolute best to make it out before months end, I also highly recommend bernies & it should be not so far from you as well, I highly recommend every single thing on their menu
    this is from
Their Google maps … one of the best burgers in me entire life & I kinda want to compare it with red hook tavern lol, look at the frozen beer mugs šŸ» this just shows you how much pride they take on w every single thing 🤩 … pricing was s amazing 🤩 at bernies but I hear that pricing is a bit over the top at Red hook but when it comes to amazing food it doesn’t matter šŸ˜‹

  • I got a tooth pulled and bone graft put in Tuesday, now I’m on a liquid and non solid food diet, with only a few more days left, I’m gonna be so happy when I can go back to normal eating of solid foods.

  • I have been craving Lillians pizza for years. They're located on the beach where I grew up in Florida and their food is amazing!

  • @MGKelly63 oh nice !! Before you know it you’ll be back to eating your fav’s

@Mela_B Amazing pizza I been to Lillians before

  • While I was in Cali, I ordered a Lyft for me & my friends but one of the places that auto popped up while typing was called "My Milkshake" but there wasn't time to check it out. I've been craving to go ever since.

  • @Spud424 Hope you have a good time in Vegas! I always get my In-N-Out animal style--it's the best!

  • @cuddles_ndream thanks it’ll be so nice when I can.

  • Well I am not craving it because I have been on a primarily vegetarian diet for years, but this occurs every year out here and people from everywhere in the world descend on this place like a holy pilgrimage of BBQ. Went there yesterday and it does make your mouth water. The World Series of Pitmasters.
