I'm an American, but I've lived in Oxfordshire, Lincolnshire, and occasionally get to visit London. One of my favorite experiences in London was at the Tower of London while spending time with family. My kids and I spent a good deal of time cuddled on one of the park benches and watched the ravens for hours (we've always loved corvids)... we were blessed with a bright, sunny day, which made for a truly wonderful time. I haven't been to the Tower since 2010, so I couldn't tell you how much ticket prices are, but I remember not really being bothered about it, so it couldn't have been too bad.
@pinim assuming you mean public places, you could do worse than a bench overlooking the river. If it's wet there might be a corner in Hays Galleria, and if I remember rightly there are benches in the garden of Southwark Cathedral, which is quite sheltered. Personally I'd be tempted to go for a standing spoon on London Bridge itself, watching the sun come up through Tower Bridge. Although HMS Belfast might be an interesting prospect ....
Further afield you might be able to find a suitable corner in the Barbican or the Royal Festival Hall. And if it's dry you could do worse than a picnic in any good park, even at this time of year. If all else fails, the National Gallery. Or a cinema of course - I believe some of them have couches.
