Movie Screens

What color is a movie screen? My first answer would be "white", because that's how it looks in natural light. Once the movie starts, however, I see vibrant color and movement. I'm still looking at a movie screen, but its appearance depends on the nature of the light that is shining on it.

This idea came to mind on my journey towards self-acceptance. As I've grown in recent years, I've begun to see more and more of the beauty in people around me. Is everyone else becoming more beautiful, or am I shining a better light than I used to?

It may be some of both, but I want to think about what I project onto those around me. I know for a fact that it contains more beauty than it used to. With that in mind, it becomes easier to accept and love myself.

Do you love people around you? Turn some of that love inward: there's beauty there.

If you dislike the pictures on the movie screen, there's good news about that, too! You have the power within you to search and discover your own beauty. It's there, I promise!

While you are searching or waiting for your next cuddle session with an enthusiast or a pro, pause for a moment, and give YOURSELF a BIG, HONEST, and LOVING hug! You deserve it! Accept a virtual one from me, too.

    Awwwwwwww @JoyfulHeart YAY!!!!! I love love love this!!! What a beautiful ideology. I do think that we can be someone who reflects back to someone (I think of a disco ball) but I also believe that what is in us or what we are becoming more aware of makes things more beautiful if we want it to. (OMGOSH...... Now I am thinking and processing and just wow.)

    Its like turning a kaleidoscope..... Just a fraction of an inch and we see something entirely different. I LOVE THIS THREAD!!!! Thank you for you Mr. Joyful. 😊

    I've actually used the kaleidoscope analogy before. Even in natural light, there are certain things that are sparkling, shimmering, or iridescent!

    You, my friend, are a person who scatters light in beautiful and delightful ways!

    The non-metaphorical answer is that a thing’s color is determined by what it reflects back at you. Grass is “green” because it absorbs all the other colors of light except the green. What we perceive as white is absorbing no light and reflecting the whole visible spectrum back at us.

    This is why movies that are projected onto a screen are best viewed in the dark.

    Not sure what that does for the metaphor.

    One thing I dislike about movies is the low frame rate. Seeing a movie feels like a slide show to me. On a small monitor it's not as bad because the distance something moves between frames is fairly small but on a huge movie screen it's awful.

    I really dislike the obsession with bumping up resolution without moving to a higher frame rate. I understand from a production and distribution point that frame rate is a pain but 24FPS is really bad and the blur they add in to hide it is just hideous.

    My screen has gone almost completely dark. My projector light grows weaker by the day as it runs out of power. The batteries won’t hold a charge anymore.

    @MonkeyNeedsAHug (OMGOSH!!! HC its you in there! What a fun user name!) I do think you have something actually. If you think about how its absorbing but just reflecting what is lacking.... (I just got done with an astronomy class last year and I actually UNDERSTAND what you are saying about refraction/reflection and stuff! I feel so accomplished💗) How fun it might be to think about how wrong we are when we only look with our eyes. We miss all the stuff that people have hidden underneath. If we only look at the thing that is most obvious.... Grass is GREEN ..... Sky is BLUE.... etc then we forget to wait for the hidden gems.

    There was a lovely human that was talking to me about the color of our skin being such an issue (This pale faced girl always tried SUPER HARD to get a tan so I wouldn't stand out so much!!) but the truth of the matter is that its just a feature..... but.......

    ITS NOT OUR MOST SALIENT FEATURE!!!!

    Who we are in all of the underneath is the best part in my opinion. Its like an amazing RED sports car that has a crazy fabulous motor and tires that corner like crazy..... Red is only ONE FEATURE!!! And it might change depending on the light or other things.

    So much more makes us who we are. Sometimes people are scared to play the movie that is their being. Maybe the white screen is the only thing that feels safe.

    I like that. If we can see beauty in others maybe we can see beauty in ourselves. And vice versa 😊
