Maybe you want to be with someone.
Therapy.
You can want to be with someone but you shouldn't need to be with someone. I agree with the last poster.
I know this may sound redundant.... but
Loving yourself ( One can never truly express love and receive healthily it if this step isn't accomplished first). I was in a relationship that put me through therapy. I learned that 1 I was actually tired of myself and feeling bad for myself... Then googled 🤣 everything and found these tips to help me, along side of therapy. Make a list of all the things you want to try and learn. Make a list of all you are greatful for starting with the ability to breathe. Make a list of things you will improve.
Take Care
@speedrsr2001 and all Good morning I can relate to this convo as someone who was in a serious and abusive LTR since I was 17 and it ended couple of years ago. My habit of having my significant other by my side had to go away, the grief took place just for a year and has been vanishing away with every friendly connection I make. You’ve asked about monogamy .. That habitual comfortable concept is kinda outdated by now (my personal bias of course) Instead I have opened my heart to the world, and could not be happier. Because the Heart breaks open when it had to grow larger ✨
Life is short, cherish everyone you connect with... there are miracles and serendipities around, you just have to start noticing.
Remember, you are loved Each and everyone of you ☀️ It’s going to be fine So be it and so it is
@FelineCuddles Those are all good points… thank you
One of the best ways to cure loneliness is to do things for others. Volunteer. Find people in your life who need help. Visit elderly relatives. Bring a meal to someone who is not feeling well. Look for opportunities to be helpful.
I mentioned this in another thread but there is scientific evidence that doing for others is more a boost for our mood than having others do for us. In one experiment at the Touch Research Institute, they found that the symptoms of depression in older adults were temporarily relieved by receiving massage. However, when those depressed older adults were trained to do massage on infants in the neonatal ICU, they got even more benefit by giving massage to the babies.
As has been pointed out, we are social creatures. Other primates spend about 30% of their awake time grooming each other or sitting close to each other. It’s unnatural for us to live alone without family and friends close by. For most humans for most of history this wasn’t possible, both for economic and survival reasons. To be alone was literally a death sentence.
I used to run a retirement home and feel this 100 percent. I loved it but the company I worked for was really working me to death and they were very money hungry… but I stayed because of the residents. It does fill my heart when I do for others but it is draining on me and I feel like I just want someone to recognize me for once… to just tell me how special I am. It really hurts to know that I can care and think of others so much and at times feel so drained … like my bucket is so empty . Not sure if any of this makes sense
@speedrsr2001 makes 100% sense & im sure every single person could relate to you & have experienced the same at some point (or several points) in their lives, (maybe even right now as we speak… & it comes in many different forms - could be from their upbringing/ childhood / parents / friends / co-workers / dating / their own kids / & the list only goes on from there (being the new person at school / going to a totally different place from where everything is different to you & everyone views you as different / ect ect ect … there’s no 1 solution for all, I just know you will get to yours I promise.
Doing something for a job is not the same as doing it of your own free will.
Of course it makes sense. Most of us have been there and those who haven’t must be some sort of weirdos.
The problem is, if we decide that the only way we’re going to feel okay is for someone else to do this or that for us, then we’re stuck in that place indefinitely. How do I know? Lots of personal experience with it. In the end, the only one who can solve our problems is us.
Counseling has been a big help to me over the years.
I live alone and have been single way longer than I ever expected. I don’t care for either. It’s a constant struggle. It’s why I volunteer two evenings a week at a rabbit shelter and adopted a rabbit. She is almost always up for stroking or cuddling. Not the same as another human but it helps.
@Babichev what you said it's common sense about cure loneliness, but many know it and don't do it.
Idk if it works for you but for me I got rejected and screwed over so many times in the dating scene I eventually just gave up.
@speedrsr2001
"financially, spiritually, physically, but emotionally I’m alone."
Peel layers off your onion and really look in the mirror. You didn't mention self-awareness; only a societal examples of, "happiness."
