I’m taking my bunny to the vet for her second vaccination - not COVID, Rabbit Hemmorrhagic Disease. It’s a deadly virus that is creeping across the U.S., is highly contagious, kills rabbits within a couple of days, and has been indentified in both domestic and wild rabbits. We finally have an approved vaccine and so my bunny will get her second shot on Valentine’s Day.
Other than that, no plans. Yet.
@Babichev: Oh, geez. As if humans dying wasn't bad enough. I'm glad there's a vaccine, though! I wish you and your bunny the best of luck.
(Those are good Valentine's Day plans.)
I'm going to eat candy and get snuggles.
@DaringSprinter - fortunately RHD has not made it to Missouri, it’s been in western and southern states mostly. Until recently there was only a European vaccine that was approved for emergency use only (had not been through the approval process in the US) and so it was only available in counties where the disease had been identified. Now we have one approved for use in the US any vet can get it. I’m glad to have my bunny protected. One can literally track it into the house on dirt on the shoes. In places where they have the virus, people with rabbits have to take their shoes off when they come indoors. One shelter in California had to put down around 100 rabbits because a rabbit that came into the shelter was found to have it. It’s nasty. I’m glad we have this vaccine now. It won’t help the wild rabbits but the domestic ones can be protected. As of March 1, all rabbits visiting our shelter will have to be vaccinated. We have rabbits come in for nail trims, grooming (for the longhairs), boarding, and hanging out with other rabbits for a possible bond mate.
I could come up with some Valentine’s Day meme for vaccinating bunnies: Show your love, get them vaccinated.
It's going to be another depressing day for me. No one to spend it with, no one to cuddle, no one to cook dinner for. So ya, pretty depressing for me
@Babichev: Viruses. Brrrr. They do get around.
Yeah! If you wanted to be extra cheesy (in true Valentine's Day style), you could even say "show your love for every bunny...."
I will be working, I'm sure. Been single for over 15 years now, it's not likely that that will ever change. It's honestly just another day for me. If I wanted to be mean, I could go somewhere and say to a woman clearly on a date and say "So this is why you aren't texting me back." But I'm not mean. Honestly though, I never saw the big deal about VD, even on the one year I wasn't single.

@samfiddle:
As a queer, non-binary individual raised by religious zealots who hated me but loved an imaginary person who they insisted was me, and taught me to hate myself just the same as they did... I feel this.
Even outside the Christian church, society's got no place for people like me—they slice and slash, maim and remake us into something we're not, then say they have a place for us as if they haven't destroyed us and given our mutilated remains a name that isn't ours.
I remember the feeling of knowing, right down to my bones, that I wasn't acceptable and would never be accepted—forget loved.
"You have value to yourself," I told myself, "and so long as you can stay alive, you don't need anything else. Certainly you don't need their approval," I thought, "look at the things they approve of! No thanks."
But it still hurt, all the same.
I hope someday you find some weirdo who wants you like you want them (like I did)... or at least discover the ability to not give a fig what our species thinks about people like you. Whichever.
Traditionally, I've never celebrated Valentine's - like, actively don't enjoy the crowds, fixed-pricey menus everywhere, and things being way more expensive. Also, had a traumatic experience with roses as a child, so never even liked the flowers part of the holiday. Now, 2/15 being unofficially marked-down chocolate day is AWESOME.
But this is my first Valentine's Day since my husband passed, so I'm not really sure what feels might crop up on the day. I'm keeping my schedule open for breakdowns and whatnot, but hoping for the best.
@Jenapher so sorry to hear about the passing of your husband. My condolences to you.
Went to the gym today and realized I forgot my boxing wraps. Didn't want to drive back so bought new ones.
Didn't think about it at the time, but I guess the color matches the seasonal festivities.
Also, there is no feeling quite like breaking in a new pair of wraps.
Putting them on, new or old, is a slow, meditative ritual.
It's something fighters have been doing for a long time, so the ritual feels connected and ancestral.
For those struggling I’d like to suggest checking out some of the posts on this thread:

I will be in Florida for a trade show and as a speaker. I have no idea who will be the amplifier.
@FunCartel perfect timing. Our chilly time finally ended here ☀️
Hello Cuddle People ! 🤪✌️🤗
Valentine’s Day as a single person is just another beautiful day to me. Had a girls event planned but it looks like it may have fallen through which is perfectly ok. 💗
@Jenapher I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your husband and wish you the peace, healing and comfort you deserve.
@ve3auo - and anyone else who may be feeling down, better days are coming and I also send hugs and good vibes your way.
@whatsername09 The chocolate crawl sounds like such a fun day !!
@MillieBug I adore that you incorporated your daughter and giving in Valentine’s Day. Super sweet!!
@Mela_B Candy and cuddles are always a win!! 💗
@MissAdventurous I love your abundant mindset personally and professionally and hope you and yours enjoy your special time together!
@MCcuddles2 Red wraps are perfect for v day though I much prefer mine broken in 🤷♀️😝
@DaringSprinter - I know that you don’t need my sympathy, and I hope I don’t offend you by offering it, but I do feel for you and do acknowledge that it sucks that you are not accepted or loved.
I've never cared for Valentine's Day. It has always seemed to me like a gross festival of consumerism masquerading as what society deems "romantic".
It's just another day, really. Like most days, I'll spend it around a person who I adore—cuddling them, making food, playing games, and so on.
Hmm, good question. Mr. 6 flags as he is called does not wish to celebrate the day so probably stealing one of your ideas. The ice cream thing sounded like fun only I want gummie bears on mine.,
Nothing lol. If someone wants to cuddle I’ll leave the day open. I’m sure there will be a need.
