    @CuddleWho
    PLOS One recently announced it was retracting more than 100 peer reviewed articles due to manipulation of the peer review process.

    Also, science in general has a “replication crisis” not just in social sciences but even in medical research. Different replication projects have pretty consistently found only 1/3 to 2/3 of published scientific results could be replicated. Here is an article that focuses specifically on the problems replicating results in psychology experiments.

  • That's nice. Tom Cruise doesn't believe in psychology either. It's just hocus pocus, poison of the mind.

  • That is an excellent meme.

  • @cylee1180 Forget Tom Cruise. As mentioned above, psychology (and to some extent medicine, but not exactly "science in general") is undergoing a replication crisis, where they've realized that the large majority of published results in their field are bogus and can't be replicated. In addition, many of the most highly publicized researchers in psychology have been revealed to be either frauds or, at least, so stubbornly clinging to known false results that IMO they are morally equivalent to frauds. See for instance Amy Cuddy and Brian Wansink (although technically Wansink was not in a psychology department).

    Despite this being a known massive problem in the field, with lots of discussion and hand-wringing, the field just carries on before, with clearly stupid experimental design and data analysis. It's pathetic.

    This doesn't mean that psychotherapists have no value. I do think when they focus on practical knowledge and experience, they can play a positive role. But as science, psychology is worthless.

    @CuddleWho Yeah, maybe it's the theoretical, abstract, or experimental explorations that can be clouded, but after all, it's man made and man is fiawed. But, some of the coolest discoveries and accidents also came about in labs.

    However, that is a high percentage of flawed conclusions.

    Agree that the practice of psychotherapy can be healing for many folks.
