Before Covid, we never masked up everytime a new disease emerged.
Maybe they did but nobody listened? I haven't actually looked into it so that's just a guess.
This sounds like you’re spreading misinformation, Mike. But I hate to prejudge you. Do you have a source for the claim embedded in the title of this thread?

@MonkeyNeedsAHug - https://nypost.com/2022/06/06/cdc-raises-monkeypox-alert-to-level-2-recommends-masks-during-travel/
@Mike403 According to the CDC, you can get monkeypox if you "Are within a few feet of an infected person and breathe in the virus released when they cough or sneeze"... As of yesterday, the CDC listed 32 countries that have reported cases, so their level of concern is pretty high.

https://www.cdc.gov/poxvirus/monkeypox/index.html
Unlike Covid though, people with MonkeyPox has visible symptoms so they shouldn't even be getting on a plane.
The NY Post piece is inaccurate. And your headline referencing it is bound to further spread false information. Please fix it.
https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/notices/alert/monkeypox
@Mike403 Obviously there's some time when a person has the virus yet no visible symptoms (because symptoms start only AFTER infection) so perhaps that's not really sufficient to prevent exposure.
@MonkeyNeedsAHug - I'm sure they'll also open the thread and read the comments. If it is misinformation, it isn't harmful. Nobody ever got hurt by wearing a mask when they didn't need to.
@UCpaaHVg6u0 is right. Additionally, the lesions may form on parts of the body that aren't typically visible when in public (genital, underarms, legs), and the lesions may take up to 21 days after infection. Also stated by the CDC, the virus may be transmitted via a cough or sneeze.
I think stigmatizing monkeys should be in the inspiration thread.
I'll just be sure to be extra wary of somebody who is eating a banana.
I am staying away from political debates for awhile. People are always slinging sh#t like monkeys at them.
@Mike403
As for the harm your post does, it isn’t that people will blindly wear a mask when it isn’t called for. It’s that they will say, “why should I wear a mask when the cdc recommends it? Didn’t they show how silly they were when they told us to mask up over the monkeypox?”
Additionally, You’re sure everyone who reads your thread’s headline is going to read the thread, itself. That is some magical thinking right there.
Just wow.
@MonkeyNeedsAHug - oh please. That headline is right there as soon as I opened my web browser on PC. Maybe this thread will educate someone to not take everything at face value.
@Mike403 the headline of this thread is harmful because it isn't true.
Just opened my browser…
@OhioMike Those stories distort what the CDC may have said. I'm always suspicious of articles like this that don't have a link to the source, or even a direct quote. I went to the CDC web site, and could find no such recommendation.
Oooooo I guess @Mike403 wins this thread. A pox on everyone who said it wasn’t true.
@GreatHornedOwl - We're figuring that out now, but I don't think my thread is causing any more harm than what has already been done. If anything, people will read the comments and discover how twisted the media is.
Haha @funcartel. Except it isn’t true. This is a case where out of date information is being disseminated. @Mike403’s motives are unclear. But everyone can go to the cdc website themselves.
They aren’t advising “us” to wear masks as Mike’s headline and initial post seek to suggest.
My god look at the treatment you have to go through if you get monkeypox:
If the media publishes something outrageous, people are going to discuss it. Whether here, or elsewhere, it doesn't matter. Trying to censor people doesn't work.
I am flagging the thread as medical misinformation. It just feels irresponsible to let that headline sit here for no good reason.
They will never end recommending masks for this and for that. Wake up. What a waste.
I don't think my thread is causing any more harm than what has already been done.
Yes it is, because you are propagating a lie. I thought you were a decent fellow, and I'm surprised. Why are you doing it?
This article that just came out today says the CDC dropped the mask recommendation for MonkeyPox.

The thing they're leaving out is that the travel wearing masks is in the countries where the disease is most prevalent, not just any travel. Media wants people alarmed because paranoia = $$$
@CuddleDuncan - I found another media source(see above) that says they did recommend it on their site, but they just removed it.
