How to neatly avoid a hug...

edited July 2022 in General

Hey, peeps!

This video scuttled across my feed and it seemed worthy of a share! This is for any gender being hugged in a way they aren't comfortable with. (Just click "Watch on YouTube".)

You are never obligated to give a hug. I love those who open with, "Would you like a hug?" Of course, odds are most of us are a resounding yes! Happy hugging! πŸ€—

  • Awe @SunsetSnuggles please dont avoid my hugs I'd be sad πŸ˜”

  • @pmvines I'll tackle you in Vegas! ...But I'll open with, "Would you like a tackle hug?" 😏

  • Perhaps I will need elbow pads

  • A duck and double leg takedown might work too (add ground and point or submission).

  • Thank you @SunsetSnuggles I'll share this with my mom in case she needs to take down a church greeter.

  • @MxSmith 🀣 I had never heard of official church huggers before, pressure much! Ahaha

  • @SunsetSnuggles omg. Yes. I used to hate this part of going to church. The obligatory hug from the greeter. The irony being that I love hugs. I just didn't know I could say no and I am allergic to feelings of obligation.

    .

  • @Mike403 I have such mixed feelings about it. I think it legitimately helps some people and harms others. I won't get into my opinions here. Just want to say some of my favorite people in the whole world are deep evangelicals and they are also the reason I could not stay in that world. Talking about religion is a sure way to unravel a thread, so I'll stop here.

  • Everyone. Your faith is your business. Posting religious posts and commentary, whether theistic, atheistic, etc. Is not allowed. Full stop. I let the Satanism stuff slide and side on the spirit of concepts and behavior, but going forward, no. There's not going to be denigration of religions or beliefs here, @Mike403 .

Get this thread back on topic.

  • Another way to neatly avoid unwanted touch? Wear this! Perhaps to your first group cuddle, if you're feeling nervous and unsure. 😁

...Though you might want to bring a change of clothes for when you get part-way through and most likely morph into a cuddle monster. πŸ˜‰

  • I do side hugs when I want. And, remember, β€œno” is a complete sentence. I like to ask if people want a hug before I try to give one. I’m teaching my child that it’s their choice to hug. A no is fine.

All I have to do to avoid a hug is say β€œhi my name is…” πŸ˜‚

    1. Say, "no, thank you."
    2. Have a Rottweiler with you on a short leash.
    3. Scream loudly and slap your head like Rain Man when they make contact with you.
    4. Fake an illness; an exaggerated cough; or some subtle reference about still being contagious.

Or you could just hug them. It won't take all day, will it?

Sorry, but when I engage the tractor beam πŸ€—β€¦ you’re pretty much screwed πŸ’– jk

  • I enjoy hugs but I almost never do it because the person may dislike it. They may feel uncomfortable even being asked, may say yes even when they want to say no, or who knows what. So no hugs for anyone from me it seems

  • Loving all of this thread! Lots and lots of ways to say "no", if you're allergic to the word, like I used to be. It's why we practice the yes/no game every single time I host a Community Cuddle event! It's my daughter's favorite game. Sure do love the world we're all creating with our yesses and no's.

  • Avoid? If I avoided hugs I'd never get any physical contact with another person.

  • That is very true that you don't have to hug people. With brand new cuddlers I meet I always ask if they're ok with a hug to just get ourselves comfortable to be in each others space since next step is cuddling. This seems to help them a lot too especially if this is the first time they cuddled with a stranger. When it comes to my friends or family then they already know I will probably go for a hug soon after seeing them so they know either to start walking away or accept it and that's that on that. But yeah with just random strangers I don't try it because I also wouldn't feel comfortable if someone I didn't know or ever talked to before just came up to me and hugged me. Unless it is a kid. I work with K-12 students so I especially often get random elementary students just saying hi to me and hugging me as they walk by me when I visit their school so I'm ok with that since it is a good sign lol
