@CharlieBear ~ 😅😘
But fyi & fwiw ~ I don't agree with sinking "necro threads".
I personally find a lot of the threads/comments, especially those made before my time here, to be at least somewhat worthwhile, and I like seeing the input from those currently involved in the forums as well.
To me, if someone finds an old thread interesting, and has something to add ~ Awesome!! Kudos to them, their ongoing interest in the community and their attempts at encouraging others to take part!!
Honestly..., I find it rediculous that some of the same people who complain about "necroposting", are the same ones who complain when someone brings up a topic for the N'teenth time, and preach "search the forum" too. It's kind-of obnoxious.
And finally on the subject (since my soap box is getting slippery), I think using the term "necropost" in the context I've seen here recently, isn't correct in that neither the thread topics nor the comments made are a nuisance or of no substance. Plus, all those threads are still open for comments, so if someone has thoughts to share (that are on-topic and relevant to now), then why not??
TL:DR If people don't want to join in on it, they could just as easily choose to move on to something else that they think is more deserving of their time, attention, and 'bumping' efforts. Or ^gasp^ create their own new and interesting thread.
Also, I believe those who do that (break the flow by pointing out something is an old topic, or who shame others for the "offense" of how they choose to engage with the content here) should have their comment redacted for being both off topic and for it's potential to create hostility in our cuddle community.
TL:DR² When it comes to this topic, I just don't think there are any good reasons for calling out or putting down others [or for re-burying the things they've found from our past either].
@quixotic_life I mainly made my comment because we have just seen a bunch of old threads resurface, and so many of those participants are either gone or banned. I mentioned sinking them since comments being responded to are years and years old. We can let the old threads die and just start new ones to get engagement from all the current members.
Though I am just responding to reports, so my thought on it is certainly not the way it has to be. I have just seen an influx of reports and I'd just like to enjoy my weekend I also do agree with the point that all these old threads are pushing down current threads.
I was chatting with a CC member today and one thing I like about older threads .. like pre 2017 when I joined… I just like seeing the members usernames that are no longer here It’s sort of like looking at an old school yearbook 🤣. Nostalgia! You new folks will get there lol 😂.
Would a post made of dead rotted wood and no longer able to perform its duties be a necro post ?
@pmvines hmmmm 🤔
@pmvines Leave my coworkers out of this! lol
@CharlieBear ~ Yeah... I get it. But I feel that people have gone way too far with all their flagging/reporting. For real-life problematic behaviors or DM's that cross the line? Sure! Report those!!
But someone who just has a different take than the majority? Or who perhaps wasn't aware that their choice of words might offend? It's as if people are less and less willing to give others the benefit of the doubt, or to ask for clarification before assuming the worst and reporting someone.
It wasn't so long ago that right next to the frivolous and silly, we had the space, and collective mental bandwidth, for open debates and cerebral discussions that one had to pause to consult a book on their shelf, a dictionary, or wiki, etc. before proceeding with their reply.
One could even loose their shit and not have their POV washed by mods. They'd be taken to task by the community, given warnings for all to see, and timeouts if they couldn't/wouldn't chill. And threads weren't shut down as fast either. So if someone got all bent out of shape, they'd have the time to turn things around. They could consider another's perspective and either double-down or show their capacity for growth - either way the threads tended to stay open.
Now it's like the same few(?) people are 'noping' on the daily, and it's a bummer because it's the whole "squeaky wheel" deal, and those who aren't bothered, or who are able to deal outside of flagging, are getting the short end of the experience here. [IMO - Obviously]
I'm not saying it was all rainbows and butterflies. Anyone could do a quick search and see that your's truely has had many a run in with others here (some that if dwelling I still can get quite a bit miffed about). But it felt more real. Like you could truly get to know people beyond their surface presentations. And I just kinda miss that iteration of CC (and those who were shown the door because they didn't fit the "keep it light" mold, or challenged others to think about things that can be uncomfortable/messy). You know?
@quixotic_life If these are the dark times for the forums, then I am almost exclusively the problem for anyone that shares that view since I am the one that addresses most of the forum flags. If the community wants to travel back to 2016 and dig up old threads to chat with the ghosts of former community members, I don't have to respond to those flags. I want what the community wants.
@CharlieBear ~ "the dark times" ~ OMG! Lol ~ Not quite what I meant/where I thought focus would land, and most certainly I don't blame you!! You're doing a job (a volunteer one at that) that is helping to keep the forums from turning into an unimaginable hellscape!! So a huge mess of appreciation goes to you!!
"*If the community wants to travel back to 2016 and dig up old threads to chat with the ghosts of former community members..."
As far as I've seen with the reviving of older posts, it's been done to add something new, and for others to interact with too should they so choose. But I don't recall seeing anything related to connecting with former members, though I also don't click on every thread so could've missed it.
Either which way though ~ Thank you for hearing me out. Just one of the many ways in which you're wonderful!! 🤗
@quixotic_life 😂😂😂 that may have come off a bit harsher on myself than I meant for it to 😅
I don't mind folks bringing back the dead if they have something to add to the conversation. Zombies are looking for brains, yo. Enlightenment. So serve up some wisdom/brains, or leave the dead... dead. Don't be a lazy necromancer, either. If you're gonna bring back dead threads but make zero effort with your bump-for-attention little comment, I'm pretty you're someone I'd have timed out, because I was never and will never be as nice as @CharlieBear .
@quixotic_life - your thoughtfulness and points of view continue to impress me.
@Sideon Oh stahp 🥰
And yes if I have a different take than @quixotic_life , I have some self reflecting to do
@Sideon & @CharlieBear ~ You two... 🤗🥰!!

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I honestly could not have said it better. And to add, if threads were not meant to be commented on past a certain date they would all have been closed. Seeing that they’re open, they’re available for input by current members just as they were of old ones. The fact that we have to even have this conversation is rather disturbing to say the least and the fact that prominent members are the ones doing the undermining of thought and expression here as it relates to this is something interesting to see as well.
Yeah... I get it. But I feel that people have gone way too far with all their flagging/reporting. For real-life problematic behaviors or DM's that cross the line? Sure! Report those!!
Imagine reporting a thread not on its merits, not because there’s been a violation of TOS, not even on its commentary, but purely because it was revived from the past? - by someone you might have disagreed with maybe? That’s probably the pettiest load of BS I’ve seen yet. What people do in the dark always has a cute way of revealing itself though. The people doing these blind reports should actually be the ones reprimanded for it. Putting attention on something that doesn’t deserve it and that should have been a non-issue from the beginning is actually more disruptive to the forums than anything else, and time-consuming, I’m sure, on the mods who, in addition to all the actual reports they already get, have to deal with these farcical ones too.

So true, that’s another reason I looked to the past in the first place…to see what cc was like then vs. what it’s become now. The members were definitely about open thought and exchanges of ideas, even in the presence of opposing viewpoints which is so vital to a forum as opposed to the constant mob mentality we see so often happening today.
👆👆 this 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
@quixotic_life everything you said was so spot on. Thank you for saying this. I honestly could not have said it better.
☝️👏🏼✍️
@PrettyLuv To me the issue isn’t simply bringing up old threads. That’s fine, and some people won’t like it but it’s not against the rules. The issue for me as someone who has to deal with reports being thrown around is if someone goes to the bottom of the forums and just starts adding comments to multiple threads making the current topics all threads from 7 years ago without, seemingly, any reason to it other than to just agree to the sentiment of it. As much as I love reading through old threads and comments and handling flags (or really just dismissing them at this point) from a comment left half a decade ago, a new thread could just be made as an alternative. I mentioned before but I am not trying to say to refrain from resurrecting old threads, but an alternative could be to start a new discussion around a topic brought up before. Or don’t, I’m not doling out any punishments here, I just much prefer dealing with the flags that are from comments made this decade.
Edit: Also, there were so fewer members back then. We can’t really compare the state of the forums from then to now. It is much easier to have discussions that don’t turn toxic when it’s double digit numbers of people active on the forums (I have no idea what the actual numbers are).
@CharlieBear yeah, it should never be a situation where people are being inhibited from resurrecting a thread just because it’s an old thread. A new one would just as easily clog up the forums if it’s just repeating old ones which is the whole reason why some threads are moved to Megalithic ones to stop the repeat ones from happening.
It’s such a toxic thing when members are adding meaningful commentary to a thread from the past and are flagged for it? That’s just a gross mis-use of the flagging/report feature. And making a new thread is not necessary if the question was already posed prior that one can meaningfully add to. That’s counterintuitive to the whole point of having a collective forum of thought on a particular issue.
The whole premise behind certain decisions on the site itself are based on decisions made in old threads that are constantly referenced today.
As far as the number of members are concerned, being that we don’t know what the actual numbers are of forum participants now as opposed to then, I value what they said in the past as I do now.
I agree with you that it would be better if flags are made from actual comments that violate TOS, rather than just undermining forum discussions for the sake of it.
Perhaps the emphasis ought to be on restricting gratuitous flag use instead.
@PrettyLuv I should also note that there hasn’t been a massive influx of flags on comments from old posts. I see them occasionally but so far nothing concerning. I meant it just as more preventative, not that life suddenly became hell for mods, if that is what I made it seem like.
There's another consideration to necro threads and any other thread or comment:
If you don't like the topic or content, move on.
@PrettyLuv and @CharlieBear - great points.
@Sideon thanks Sid 👆
I necroed an old poops today when I unleashed the plunger on the old poops throne
Now I am self necrosed
You're welcome. 🤣😂
And PrettyLuv looks at both of you and goes The F is wrong with these two , dont they have a life?
@Katota can I have an emogi for the above. thank you.
@Sooson how about a gif ...
