Once I reached teen years, I couldn't watch horror films without sleeping with the lights on for the next three weeks.
Alien - absolutely terrifying. Jason/Friday the 13th - which began the exercise of always always always checking under the bed. Freddy Krueger - bubble baths became super creepy. The Blob - when I was a child my sister said marshmallows could turn into the Blob. See Sid run. The Thing - good luck petting a German Shepherd again. Amityville Horror - between the book and the movie and the real life happening of a cat at my bedroom window screen, howling... See Sid. See Sid almost pee his pants.
Gore and blood, no can do. I have been known to watch movies without sound on - that's pretty much the only way I can do scary movies.
Child Catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang scared the crap out of me when I was a kid and that scene still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Great casting with that weird guy.
