Is there an app?

Just curious, can't seem to find one... Is there a reason why there isn't one? Am I blind?

  • On mobile, the site pretty much functions as an app. I've never felt the need for an extra download.

  • @FunCartel, lol.

@DaringSprinter I have to agree, it does work well on mobile, but I am curious regarding notifications, or do we rely on email to alert us of a message?

  • You could add the website to your Home Screen so it feels like an app, though you won’t get notifications like you would with an app, unfortunately.

  • Yeah, thought about that. I signed up today (yup, cake day) as this site shines through as a more suitable and reliable source to "scratch that itch" I just thought with it being so reliable, that there may be an app.

I'm sure there is a perfectly sound explaination as to why there isn't. I'm guessing that being in either of the two popular stores would generate an incredible amount of unsuitable interest.

Naturally this would create a massive headache for mods.

  • @Warmlyhearted: I have the site open too often to need to rely on email—I have my account set so it doesn't notify me. The little dot by the envelope icon at the bottom of the page does it for me.

If I did set my account to email me, well, I get a notification on my phone every time I get an email. So there's that.

Guess I can see how a person might want something more specific. Email can come from anywhere.

  • Because of spam and other unimportant emails that can simply wait for me to get to when I am less busy, I have actually disabled notifications from my email client.

Similarly, if you ain't in my phone book and considered important, you don't get favourited and thus, with my phone on do not disturb, it doesn't ring unless it should... Sorry robo callers! You're wasting your time!

  • @Warmlyhearted: Yeah, I can see how an app would really help in your case.

Unfortunately, CC doesn't have one. You're not missing it—it's not there. Maybe at some point in the future. I think I remember talk about development. But right now it's just this.

  • Well, no rush... Just feeling about the site (no bikini areas though!) Slowly finding my way around and getting used to navigation. To be fair, it's quite easy which helps with feeling comfortable.

Thanks to everyone for your input. Much appreciated.

  • You can set notifications in the settings.

Ah yes, the app question. There is no true app, but there is a pseudo one which looks and feels like an app and is very nearly as good. There will never be a true app, it isn't worth the trouble. One moment please .... dig dig ...

Comment from Mark (the site owner):

It's a PWA app. So on Android you should see the 'Install App' button in Settings page but for iPhone you'd need to save the website to your home screen for it to activate. iOS also currently lacks support for the Push notifications in PWA.

So yeah, if you're an Android user, the app is as good as a native app right now.
