Banned member recently online?

I had to report someone recently for highly inappropriate behavior during a session (this was my first, and hopefully last, time reporting someone!) and he was subsequently banned. I had added this person as a favorite prior to the problematic session and I just noticed that it looks like he was online a few hours ago despite his account being banned. What does this mean? Can banned members still access their account?

@cuddlezandhugz - They can log in to submit an appeal if they feel they shouldn't be banned. That's all they can do.

I don’t know anything about this case but reporting someone doesn’t automatically get them banned. The moderators need to hear both sides of the story and if two people with good records say different things they may have to reserve judgement on the matter. Certainty patterns of bad behavior will get you banned.

@cuddlezandhugz - I've seen banned members from years ago pop in regularly. Yep, they're still banned and still can't do anything: no access to forum, no access to messages. Nada. The chances of a successful appeal are slim at best.

Ah. Ok. So apparently you can still log in if you are banned. Didn’t know. Is there a reason for that? Just so they can appeal?

@dave31415 - Yes. They get one appeal and they have to log in to write it.

Unfortunately, banned members can still read the forums. You don't even need an account to read the contents of the forums.

@cuddlezandhugz - Yes. They don't need an account at all to read the forums. I remember @Mark saying it was intentionally designed that way to give better visibility in search engines.

May I say, @cuddlezandhugz, thank you for reporting him. It's not always the easiest thing to do. I know it's a very distant connection, but it makes me feel just a tiny little bit safer.

@cuddlezandhugz - People are banned everyday including those that have been here awhile and I thought were respectful people based on their forum interactions.

True, I've sometimes been surprised at people who, before meeting in person, seemed very respectful and safe but turned out to be borderline boundary pushers. People are sometimes good at putting up a good front when they need to.

@cuddlezandhugz my impression is that the mods always take serious reports seriously. Sadly its not rare for people with Karma to turn out or be bad uns.

Since the person was banned without physical evidence, it's possible this was not the first time such a Report had been made. This is why Reporting is so important.

If in doubt, Report.

@SoftHairForDays in my experience it's very common for forums to be readable by everybody. You usually have to join to post.

I was wondering about this myself. Over the years, a number of people I have communicated with have gotten banned. Didn't know all of what is required to get you into purgatory. It is always wise to vett anyone before you meet them for safety reasons. One individual who got banned, stated they would report others for any misconduct. Ironic. I periodically change my profile, and once caught a creep who copied my profile literally on their page word for word, as representing themselves. I wasn’t flattered; but flabbergasted. Reported it, and they were not banned; but changed their profile after being reported.
