@FunCartel People like you are part of the problem, keep trying to stir things up. Try using your head sometimes. We should be trying to find common ground in our society, not keep trying to stir the pot.
@natickben @FunCartel thank you. That meant a lot.
@justwanthugs
The original poster asked if eating watermelon was racist. I suspect any thinking person could figure out whether the meal in question was problematic and why. The fact that Mike chose to argue with people with more information than he has makes me think he already knew the answer and is playing dumb to stir the pot, himself. But, you want to go after @FunCartel.
Do explain how FunCartel is “part of the problem” being discussed. Or retract the wholly unsupported assertion.
Thank you.
MNAH
@justwanthugs I am part of the problem because I empathize with others? Empathy brings people together and creates a common ground. Telling other groups to not be offended as you stated earlier IS THE PROBLEM. What someone else is offended by is not your call, but it is an opportunity to understand them better.
Understanding what these black children and their parents were offended by is not stirring the pot. But saying it is another instance of everything being turned into a race issue as you said is an instance of driving a wedge between people. If you do not see the problem of a white guy trying to tell black people what a race issue is and when they can be offended by it, then I don’t know what to say to you other than I hope you find a bit more empathy.
The poster asks if “eating watermelon is racist.”
OK, Mike is a bit clueless sometimes. Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt and answer him…
Wait!
Is he listening to people’s replies? No. He is just stirring the pot with non sequiturs. It’s as if he just wants to keep a thread alive, with this frankly embarrassing title.
I call trolling. Shame on you, Mike.
@FunCartel Before this thread gets locked (it's basically conservative trolling?), I just want to say, very nicely put.
@MonkeyNeedsAHug I am not “going after” anyone. I’m merely stating that continuing to be offended at everyday innocuous things only divides us more. Whether this was intended or not is not really the issue. The issue is getting beyond symbolism and finding common ground. Otherwise, society will continue to denigrate even further. As for funcartel, I’ve seen enough of his posts to understand his feelings, and the word “empathy” is not prominent in those.
@justwanthugs how do you propose we find common ground when some of us are unwilling to use common sense about common things? Sounds about …..
As for funcartel, I’ve seen enough of his posts to understand his feelings, and the word “empathy” is not prominent in those.
Oh so the problem is with me. That’s ok but how about sending me a DM instead of conflating all your issues into this thread?
@BashfulLoner you tell me. Using common sense is exactly what I’m talking about.
@justwanthugs:
I, for one, will continue to be offended until none of us see racism as an “everyday innocuous thing.”
@natickben 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I will not engage beyond this, case in point. Thank you for playing.
@Mike403 Please take some time and look at things through the eyes of others rather than strictly through your own experiences. People have experienced different things than you and therefore have different thoughts and triggers, and it is ok.
Unbelievable
@justwanthugs you are the only one stirring the pot that I can see. Pointing out answers to the question the OP posed does nothing to create problems for you. There are obviously a lot of people , both black and non black , who feel like there is a flaw with the food choices. Do some people over react and take up causes of others so that they can feel more enlightened? Of course . But that doesnt change the legitimacy of the issue at hand , and doesnt mean that everybody with an opinion about it is just looking for an axe to grind. You have a lot of privilege, which also means you have a great responsibility to try to be empathetic and realize that your reality is just different than some. There are real grievances that you will never know, and sometimes its best to just reserve judgment and listen.
Just because you think that taking a specific incident that was being discussed and connecting it to a narrative that you call people “making everything a race issue” and saying everyone should not be offended and then saying it is common sense does not make it common sense just because you say so.
em·pa·thy /ˈempəTHē/ Learn to pronounce noun noun: empathy the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. "he has a total lack of empathy for anybody"
It's about understanding why NOT forcing people to overlook the how.
@Mike403 - it's Black History month. There is a big world out there outside your very very limited world view. Start paying attention. If this had been flagged earlier I would have closed and moved this thread offline earlier for what seems incredibly trollish, obnoxious, disingenuous, and disappointingly self-serving.
@justwanthugs - lay off the personal attacks, and do not further tag or engage with @FunCartel , with whom I'm admiring his restraint in his responses to you. If you two have a beef about something, take it off these forums. Don't wanna? Then mutual block and leave the rest of us out of it.
Everyone. If you're bored, if you want to be offended by someone or something: message me. I am happy to oblige. I swear on Thor's hammer and mighty abs that ya'll work my one nerve. FFS.
Now get back to some cuddle discussions and topics, please.
@MonkeyNeedsAHug - also - no personal attacks please. KTHX.
