Valentine’s Day grumblings

Boy do I HATE this holiday. Not only is it a month of nonstop ads aimed at couples, implying that life is only worth it if you have a romantic partner, but for four days is single folks can’t get seats at restaurants!

Anyway, if you’re giving the finger to this day that sucks for us singles, I’m right there with you.

Not really a fan either, except for getting a Valentine for and from my daughter.

  • But the candy sales! All hail post valentines day sales!!!!

  • I’ve heard multiple people in recent years refer to Valentines Day as “Singles Awareness Day”

  • Ah yes, Valentines Day. That great festival where a certain type of person places unrealistic expectations on their romantic partner and an understaffed restaurant, and is then disappointed when those expectations are not met.

It would be a better holiday if it was more like halloween and everyone wore a cupid costume and had a sugar high all day. Just my 2 cents.

  • I can see we are all romantics

  • Idk, for me I just roll with the changes in life. Use to be married and did all the regular Valentines Day traditions.

Now I have a different one, I babysit the grandsons so my son and his wife can go out and enjoy an evening together. So we order pizza and play with toys and act silly etc.
    😊
Challenging to hate this holiday with so much love around.!

  • @tacpmurg Yes! Candy sale. I wonder if it would last until Halloween or Christmas so I could stock up now, lol.

  • I am not a big fan of V-day. I much prefer to share love and affection year round.

  • I agree with everybody !
On my side, I bought a special lottery ticket for this day because of the proverb which says "Happy in wealth / unhappy in love", or better in reverse order for me (!). Let's dream a bit !!!

  • Happy single as f@ck day everyone !!

I am a person who appreciates building all relationships on a caring heart… so I don’t know. Valentine’s is fun. I make cards and decorations for my kids… I send texts of appreciation to friends, and I buy myself flowers and a gift.
I do, however, avoid restaurants the day of. 🤪

@SnugglesRus sometimes misery truly loves.company , but I am with you and @OhioMike . Just because the day might not have meaning to me doesnt .mean I should piss on it for others to whom its important. And the chocolate! I'm with @tacpmurg! Nothing like a CVS pharmacy 3 days after a holiday

  • I like the holiday much more while single. Like @tacpmurg said, there are the candy sales, and I can go buy a box of Bordeaux chocolates from See’s and nobody will know I’m gonna eat it all myself (well they probably do know but whatever 😅) I am happy for the couples that get to celebrate it, but glad I can spend the money that I would have been spending on flowers and stuffed bears on a video game instead. I am such a romantic 🫠

@WriterGF aww that’s sweet. It would be fun to get to spoil my children with valentine chalk candy and big heart-shaped boxes of chocolate. I am an uncle at least, so my niece can experience the joy of eating one of those big Reese’s peanut butter hearts while my brother scolds me for buying his 3-year-old a year’s worth of sugar in one candy 🤭

  • Valentine’s Day is a constant reminder to heart patients about what is broken.

  • @Charlie_Bear - when you said "chalk candy", I could taste those conversation hearts. 😑🤮🤣 Thanks for that, Hon. 🤣🤣🤣

  • @SoftHairForDays haha I’m sorry! I have a love-hate relationship with them.

  • @Charlie_Bear - 🤣🤣🤣 I forgive you. 🫂🫂🫂

This will pretty much sums up my Valentine’s Day! Lol 😂

  • @tacpmurg i thought the after Vday candy sales was why the holiday still exists. 😂😂😂

  • It's just another day for me. I don't celebrate it, never have.

@OhioMike how awesome it gives you another excuse to spend time with your grandkid! Fun times 💫

    @pmvines 😃

    @Maverick07 hilarious 😆

  • Doesn't have to be miserable if you're able to get a cuddle in ......... 🙂

  • @tacpmurg 🙌🏽🙌🏽 Yaaasss sales! I love getting discount chocolates!
@cudbud64 thatd be a lovely way to spend it/ or any other day. Like @SnugglesRus said, it’s a perfect day to show yourself love!
@OhioMike that sounds like fun! Glad you’re able to enjoy with family💗

I honestly completely forgot about it until I was having a conversation earlier today. At this point it’s just a highly commercialized day with lots of expectations but as always, life is what you make of it. 💗

  • In the past, I had enjoyed pre-valentines. I rounded up the most first dates than any other time in the year. Haha

@achetocuddle Ya got the candy discounts ?

  • @cudbud64 ain’t that the truth? I am soooo glad I get to spend this Valentine’s Day at a cuddle party. It’s nice to look forward to the day for a change.

  • I'm happy for the small businesses that will benefit from increased sales.I don't understand the importance of this special day but salute those who do.Happy valentine's day!

I think as we get older we get bitter and jaded about it. As adults, it does seem a silly when we are with someone every day. And for people like with me nobody it can be an extra reminder of loneliness. But, it is what it is. I treat it like Christmas, it’s there for the “kids”, the young lovers. I remember it used to be exciting for me.

Im just happy I was able to get a cuddle session so im good! :)
