My friends making fun of me cuz I ate something

edited February 2023 in General

So recently I ate a fried eggplant 🍆 for the first time cooked by somone at.my. job it was a nice taste and unique I was excited and told.my friends how delicious it was and they all sent a bunch a laugh emojis..what's the. Big deal did i miss a universal inside joke or something?

Anyway looked up the health benefits. For eggplants it's ok but more superior vegetables are zucchini and squash so probably make a smoothie with it

@FutureHeart2023 its just that fried eggplant 🍆 is a food that’s mostly enjoyed by women rather than men…

  • They may have been laughing at the use of the emoji, but if they were truly laughing about you exploring some culinary delights, then they don't sound like good friends to me.

Just the way you tossed the emoji in there is funny as hell. Gave me a nice little chuckle. I don’t think anyone was trying to be mean. Eggplant parm is delicious btw.

  • While science has proven that people eat 🍆 to replace things such as 100% tender meat loin. Scientist also say the real benifits are found in the seeds which contain a high level of protien. Unfortunately most people prefer to spit the seeds out.
    Its science.

  • It sounds like some of your friends are homophobic. They are focusing on the fact that you ate something phallic as opposed to focusing on your discussion of a new avenue of food. They are being childish and laughing at something that shouldn’t be funny. I’ve been told by a lot of my male friends that they get made fun of for eating bananas and even hotdogs… it’s ridiculous. Let ppl eat whatever they want without misconstruing it… they shouldn’t feel insecure about this…

  • @Sheena123 it reminded me of a scene from Superbad ;-)

  • @Maverick07 oh no! 😆😆😆

@Sheena123 I’ll laugh at emojis and immature jokes of course, but for grown men to be legitimately making fun of each other for eating hot dogs is pretty sad :/

  • Yet said men are glued to their tvs on July 4th to watch the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Championship on ESPN.

  • I grew up on my Italian grandmothers eggplant parmigiana ...nothing better. fried zucchini as well. good stuff

I think they were laughing because eggplant is SOMEHOW “associated” with that which makes a male a male. It’s immature, but I wouldn’t call it homophobic. If you like it, then by all means prepare it however you like and YOU be the bigger person and IGNORE them. Just delete their comments and don’t even give them another thought!! MORE FOR YOU, right?? 🥳

From britannica.com: “Although the suffix phobia generally designates an irrational fear, in the case of homophobia the word instead refers to an attitudinal disposition ranging from mild dislike to abhorrence of people who are sexually or romantically attracted to individuals of the same sex.” [Charlie_Bear]

I'm shocked at how many people are jumping to the phallic connotation of an eggplant emoji... As an Italian who grew up eating eggplant parm at least monthly, I'm laughing that a grown adult has never eaten a fried eggplant before.

Get y'alls minds out of the gutter, this place is supposed to be platonic.

  • Yeah, I don't understand arriving at the homophobia conclusion here. The OP mentioned this was fried eggplant. I would think if you fry it you would slice it first? It would not be in it's raw (phallic?) form.

This thread begs the question as to how many eggplant pics women get. Seriously ladies, have guys used eggplant pics as a photographic euphemism for you know?
