Has Jiu-Jitsu made you a better cuddler?

I was having a conversation with a fellow cuddler and was made aware that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and cuddling share many similarities. Now I am interested because I would love to find more ways to improve my cuddling while also finding another way to exercise. If you train in Jiu-Jitsu, how has your experience been and do you feel like it has had a positive impact on your cuddling?

    Back in the day (1970s) I did judo because it was free on the military base and I was really good at it (won the Arizona State Championship in my weight class). But my mom made me give it up when I got a lacerated kidney with internal bleeding in a competitive match. I hope that never happens during a cuddle.

    Follow up to that is she leveraged that injury with the base doctor to not approve contact activities because she knew I had an eye to football because the football coach watched me from other sports and wanted me to play football. The longest grudge I ever held against my mom because I really wanted to play a sport that involved contact. As a parent now, I approve of her decision.

  • @FunCartel ok in regards to the first part, that's awesome! As for the lacerated kidney...yeah that would be some extreme cuddling to cause something like that 😬

  • I guess id be interested or at the very least intrigued but I definitely wouldn’t like my cuddle buddy to get me in an arm bar. Lol.

  • @Charlie_Bear Ok, generally speaking an injury like that is rare in judo but the guy who performed the throw on me lost his balance and his knee landed on the kidney with significant force. One of the first things you are taught is how to fall correctly and roll to not get hurt. I did that but it was competition and I had a solid hold on his gi so it was kind of my fault because I was trying to transition into a flip on him.

    I think for me wrestling has improved my cuddling ability. I’m able to put my cuddlers in a figure 4 leg lock or the sharpshooter. The camel clutch and the Boston crab are also pretty nice. Every once in a while, I might execute a sleeper hold. I find that arm bars and abdominal stretches Don’t work so well though.

    I have done a lot of both. And I could see BJJ improving confidence when cuddling for both parties. But I strongly respect BJJ! Great workout, tend to meet great people in gyms.

  • I attended an excellent consent workshop given by a Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu black belt. One thing that stood out was how, in BJJ, people slap in and tap out, with one ritual marking the granting of consent and the other ending it (and the match).

  • I am really appreciating these reponses.

    @lonelytauros
    Ok that's hilarious and I nearly lost my composure there 🤣

  • I took a year of jiu-jitsu and I think it helps. I cuddle like a pretzel. 😊

  • If male on male cuddling is not your thing, try jiu-jitsu, judo or wrestling (the olympic sport, not pro-wrestling) instead. I practiced judo for years, it's a great sport.

  • Before I got on here, I went to some BJJ classes and honestly, the first time training released so many brain chemicals that I realized I was missing something in life. Love the class (though hate the people looking to rip peoples heads off), but laziness wins everytime lol. I should pick it up again.

    And I highly suggest all ladies to take classes, there's a bunch of dudes out there who are pretty shitty, but most of them only know strength. Technique and flexibility could win as long as you avoid the strength.

  • This is really interesting to me. I’m looking for a Jiu jitsu class for my grandson to start. He’s 6. But for me I’m really intent on staying athletic and flexible. I should check into this for me, not kidding. I can see a lot of benefits. Even though I prefer spooning, I also like pretzel arm and leg wrapping.
    I had both knees replaced 1.5 yrs ago and have had a really fast recovery. Doing jump squats now lol. Yes, at 70.

  • After I realized cuddlers didn't actually enjoy getting their arms broken, I stopped applying jiu jitsu to cuddling.

    And I highly suggest all ladies to take classes, there's a bunch of dudes out there who are pretty shitty, but most of them only know strength. Technique and flexibility could win as long as you avoid the strength.

    I also recommend jiu jitsu to women, but I caution people against getting the idea that a woman is going to beat a larger man in a straight up fight. That is possible, but it's generally going to require a very large skill differential. For a woman who isn't necessarily going to sink hundreds of hours over many years into training jiu jitsu, the self defense benefits are more about learning not to panic and having options to escape when caught in a bad position... and not so much about winning fights.

    @lonelytauros 😂😂😂

    @Mela_B Yesss! 🥰

    @CuddleWho True. I’m not skilled enough to reliably win against a stronger man in BJJ, even if he’s new to the sport. But, in self defense, I suppose winning becomes staying alive and getting away. 🔥

  • Personally, I know I would have never tried cuddling if I hadn’t been training jiujitsu! For a number of reasons.

    • Training got me used to physical contact with strangers.

    • Training showed me that touch can be totally separated from sex.

    • Training gives me a peace of mind that I carry, and a willingness to take more risks, knowing that I can defend myself...

    Especially when I first started cuddling, the idea of meeting someone from the internet to cuddle sounded scary. But, maybe that’s just old “stranger danger” programming, because I haven’t found myself at a cuddle where I’ve felt unsafe. 🤷‍♀️

    ✨ I started training jiujitsu over 2 years ago. I started cuddling over 1 year ago. Both really feel like a soul’s calling. Sometimes it’s hard to just cuddle and turn off the grappling instincts. 😅✨

    My brother was just comparing his jujitsu practice to cuddling. Its a funny comparison.

  • Everything @Erin_Elle_ said 💯

  • I practiced martial arts for about 7 years, but the goal was to keep a certain distance from the opponent (karate), so the opposite of BJJ.
    I do have a couple of friends that are highly decorated, BJJ instructors, and I tried a class once but I didn't feel practicing for some reason.
    I do feel that yoga has had some positive influence on my cuddling - from the flexibility of the muscles to controlling the breathing and relaxing.

    Competitive Jiu Jitsu community are some of the best people I’ve ever met in my life. Salt of the Earth.

    The practice itself hones the instincts.

    Cuddling doesn’t even come close to comparison simply because of demographics. I haven’t had one cuddler that cares about themself even close to the way every person engaged in BJJ/Competitive sports has to.

  • I'm thinking that working with a cuddle therapist that martial arts training would be very beneficial for the recipient. I know that kind of experience would be very stimulating to my sense of touch

  • Jiu-jitsu has made me aware that my comfort vs. platonic cuddling is flip-flopped - I'm far more comfortable with and prefer practicing with other men in jiu-jitsu, but very uncomfortable practicing jiu-jitsu with women. With cuddling, it's flip flopped, I only want to cuddle women. This is despite both jiu-jitsu and cuddling involving a similar amount of body contact.

  • @Charlie_Bear - isn't there a certain male celebrity that practices Jiu Jitsu? B)

  • @Sideon Well I have no excuse now B)

  • @Erin_Elle_

    That's my husband, Tom Hardy 🥵

  • @Erin_Elle_
    Yep, what @Rezz except he’s my husband! 😂

  • Oh no. Tom is MY husband, @Rezz and @Charlie_Bear - KTHXBAI.

  • @Sideon @Rezz @ tomhardy
    Ok I think we can work this out

  • @Sideon @Rezz @Charlie_Bear
    Sorry guy's, but Tom's already in my yard. :P

  • I didn't know Tom Hardy is a polygamist 😅
