Random times you feel happiness out of nowhere

Good evening everyone,

Over the past X amount of years there will be times randomly where I’ll either be working or with my daughter or at a store or singing a song or watching something and I’ll get this random quick like super euphoric happy feeling where I feel on cloud 9, it’s always been so interesting to me how it comes from no where and happens during random times. Was wondering if anyone else has had these come up before.

  • So, are you saying that it doesn’t necessarily reflect the mood you’re currently in? I assume if you hang with your kid or singing a song then you’re probably in a better mood; however, you mentioned work🤔. I used to get more of those feelings but not so much anymore. My feeling would come from something external like doing something I really dread…like calling a client with bad news and having him/her be completely understanding. Overcoming anxious moments with something positive is where my pockets of euphoria come from. I am interested to see what others say but I think it’s an interesting question.

  • I know exactly what you are describing and it used to happen to me fairly frequently. Though now that I think about it, I haven't felt that in a while. That may be due to medication that I am now on that I wasn't before.

  • I used to have this as a teenager. Randomly I would just get ecstatically happy...the air smelled the most beautiful, the song I was listening to was the best song, etc. I think it could be mania, though personally I don't have bipolar, but it certainly seemed similar to the highs one could experience, with mania, though as you said, in short blips. Sadly, I haven't experienced this is many years. I say enjoy it while it lasts!

  • I also know exactly what you mean and experience this sometimes . At least a couple of random times a month. I could attribute the sudden mood change to hormones or something chemical. And of course I have the opposite when out of nowhere I became so down and sad, hopeless and felt like crying. I almost never cry so it is weird. Nothing had changed so no idea where it came from. Then woke up feeling back to normal.
I’ve had more times of feeling a natural high! Colors are more intense, everything is so intensely perfect around me. I also have so many new creative images in my mind. euphoria is a great description. I promise, I’m not on any foreign substances! I have to wonder if things I did back in the 70s have had some long term effect!
Honestly there are so many questions about going beyond limits in our brains - thinking, imagination, visualization. I have amazing beautiful images and stories in dreams, nightly
I’m also synesthetic (discussed in a different thread and many people on this site said they are too!)

Every so often the happy chemicals get released for no reason I can discern.

    It’s a solace, and a torment.
