  • A man hired a carpenter to help him restore an old farmhouse.

The carpenter had a rough first day on the job.

First – a flat tire made him lose an hour of work. Then his electric saw quit. And at the end of the day – his pickup truck refused to start.

While the man who hired him drove him home – the carpenter sat in stony silence. On arriving home – the carpenter invited the man to come in and meet his family.

As they walked toward the front door – the carpenter paused briefly at a small tree – touching the tips of the branches with both hands.

Upon opening the door – he underwent an amazing transformation.

His tanned face was wreathed in smiles as he hugged his two small children and gave his wife a kiss.

After introducing the man to his family – the carpenter walked the man to the car.

They passed the tree and the man’s curiosity got the better of him. He asked the carpenter about what he had seen him do earlier.

“Oh, that’s my ‘Trouble Tree’,” the carpenter replied. “I know I can’t help having troubles on the job – but one thing’s for sure – my troubles don’t belong in the house with my wife and the children. So I just hang them up on the tree every night when I come home. Then in the morning I pick them up again.”

Funny thing is,” he smiled, “when I come out in the morning to pick them up, there aren’t nearly as many as I remember hanging up the night before.”

    GET YOURSELF A WORRY TREE!

@MegaSnugglez Cursed pipes! Have you tried using Drano max build up remover? It's rated as safe for toilets. It might help somewhat.

@CharlesinWI @xandriarain OP is so right that healthy expression of anger should be encouraged, even for large men. It's unfortunate that this is how society is. As I understand it, it's partially because bullies are famous for going after people much weaker than them (and fighting back doesn't always work and may make it worse), it might a combo of experience growing up as well as just basic instinct of avoiding danger (angry behavior often precedes physical violence, strong person being violent means higher chance of death or permanent injury than smaller person being violent). There is a difference between merely being angry vs threatening someone, but not everyone is going to pick up on this I suppose.

    @MegaSnugglez

    Had that happen.

I hate to suggest it, but it might be roots in the main lines going to the street.

  • The other day I had just poured myself a bowl of cereal and milk only to find there were no clean spoons and all the dirty ones were probably buried under the tower of dishes that had accumulated in the sink (tends to happen when I’m not feeling well since I’m usually the only one who washes without being asked)

So I’m scrambling around looking for a spoon with my cereal getting soggier by the second and I already felt horrible and stressed and tired and I just wanted to eat my bowl of cereal. And why should I have to wash all of these dishes just to get a clean spoon when I didn’t use any of them??

Didn’t have the energy to scream. Cried a little bit though.

Ate my cereal with a fork.

I have since done a hostile takeover of the kitchen. This will never happen again. 😤

Three days ago, my dad, who lives on the other side of country, gave me TWO WEEKS NOTICE that he was getting married (again). And asked if I could come.

At least he called this time. 🙃

Last time he got married, he texted me DAYS BEFORE THE CEREMONY and I couldn’t come because I had just started a new job and the date was on my first day.

I wanna yell at him SO BAD, BECAUSE IT IS RIDICULOUSLY INCONVENIENT. I want to be there but I didn’t get to plan and timing is terrible.

“DAD, WHAT THE HELL? You did this same thing last time!! I’m not done with school until May and this is really inconvenient. I’d like to be there, but I’m sorry, I can’t make it.”

But I didn’t say that. I congratulated him and booked my flight the next day. I’ll make it work, I guess.

@xandriarain You may want to look into rage club: https://www.richwatkins.com/rageclub

    Worked wonders for me!

  • I don't think I've ever thrown a tantrum as an adult :# I've definitely gotten angry and frustrated, but I extremely rarely feel the need to verbally or physically express that. Does that make me the weird one out here?

    I feel so seen.

  • My deal breaker in relationships is violence and physical outbursts/breaking or throwing things. I lived with it growing up and vowed I wouldn't allow it in my own personal space again. Not sure if I should be proud or not, but most folks are terrified when I get mad/rage. I'm highly verbal, but add rage to the mix and I can filet someone alive. Regret comes later, which is small consolation after leaving an emotional wasteland. I have learned through the years to channel that rage into kick boxing, Tai chi, intense cardio, hike, bike...and yoga. Am I wise AF? No. But I know what/how I get triggered, and I also know the verbal destruction I can cause. But as @xandriarain posits here, it sure would be nice to just let it storm. Maybe at my retirement party down the road when I have zero Fs to give and zero worries about saying the honest and accurate and terrible truth. Maturity is relative, but some days I'm done adulting and just want to color, eat graham crackers, drink Quix strawberry milk, and have a nap in a treehouse.

  • @Sideon There’s this YouTube channel where this guy interviews older folks. I’ve heard from them that there’s less of a need to feel like you have to fit in when you get older. And yeah there are some people that when they get angry, there words cut like knives. Not sure how that fits into the then of over being emotionally mature or if a filter is refer when you are upset with someone.

  • Serious question - has anyone tried a rage room? I have heard of them but never felt the need to actually try one. If you have tried one did you find it therapeutic to release frustrations or was it just for curiosity that you wanted to do it like trying an escape room?

I have ups, downs, and frustrations (like I assume everyone does) but I deal with mine via hiking in a state park, bike rides, weight lifting and/or float sessions.

    @JohnR1972

I did, as kind of a laugh with a few friends in Los Angeles. About 25 years ago, when they were first a thing there.

They refunded our fee and asked us to leave when the first thing I did was put a loveseat THROUGH a wall, breaking three studs and a lot of drywall.

I wasn’t even properly angry, I was simply curious how hard I could throw the loveseat.

    Turns out, quite hard.
