Anyone going to DragonCon?

For anyone not familiar with it, DragonCon is similar to Comic-Con.

It takes place in Atlanta over Labor Day weekend and it draws about 50,000 attendees from 20+ countries. The focus of the event is everything Sci-Fi and Fantasy (Harry Potter, Dr. Who, Star Wars, Marvel, DC, Star Trek, Firefly, Supernatural, Babylon 5, Hunger Games, Walking Dead, Anime, etc.).

After skipping the past couple of years due to work and COVID, I will be heading down this year, in costume, for a long weekend with my fellow nerds.

    Ugh I wish! If things work in my favor this coming month, I’ll definitely pull out the Cammy cosplay and come back home.

    I went last year in Atlanta for the first time and loved it . Never been to one of those type things. Got some cool art and saw some cool costumes. Lots of late night debauchery, you anime nerds are some stone cold freaks

    Ill have to check out the Marvel stuff/who will be there, but I’d love to go - it’d be my first time.

    OooOooo...Sounds really fun! I probably won't be able to make it to DragonCon though. The timing is off for me. Hoping to get out to more cons in the future.

    I am going to my first real con this weekend in WV called CharCon where I will be participating in a Regional Championship Tournament. 😊

    One of my very best friends is an A-list voice actor and I often do cons with her, but I don’t think Dragon Con is on our list this year

    @quixotic_life ~ Keeper of the tiny dragon!!! Hello, Beautiful You!!!! I second your motion for his posting pics of his adventures at this year's DragonCon!

    When I saw the title of this thread, a still, quiet voice whispered to me, "That...sounds... AmAzInG!!!" I LOVE DRAGONS!!!!!!!!!!!

    Alas, it shall not be for me. But for those of you who can, I hope you all have a BLAST!!! :)

    @quixotic_life - I will see what I can do. I may have to DM you a photo since I don’t post face shots on this site. I have a great and very detailed Jedi costume along with a decent pirate costume.

    I went 7 years in a row (2012-18) and my favorite photo was from my first year there. The Walking Dead was really popular at that time and there were 2 Hollywood makeup artist who would turn you into a Zombie for $25. They were raking in the money because they could each do a customer in about 6 minutes so they were making around $250 per hour. My makeup looked like my throat had been slit and there was really awful looking stringy gore from my neck to my fake blood spattered shirt and my face was pale. I looked like a zombie, but it gets better.

    Because going to DragonCon the first time was a last minute decision on my part, all the downtown hotels were booked and I had to take the subway to my hotel on the Northern edge of Atlanta. It was about 12:30 am when I climbed the steps from the subway to street level a block from my hotel.

    I heard someone running toward me and a very excited yelling “Are you OK?”. An Atlanta police officer was approaching me with one hand on his pistol and the other holding his radio microphone. I suddenly realized what I looked like with my throat slit and “blood” spattered shirt at 12:30 am. I told him I was fine and I was coming from DragonCon. He stopped running, paused, then started laughing and said he had forgotten that it had started that Friday.

    I used to go to SD Comic-Con every year, and before that Gencon and Origins, but haven't been to DragonCon. These were all for work, though, not pleasure.

    @WriterGF - That would be cool to have a job that involved attending the cons. I am actually going to be doing some work at DragonCon myself but it is for my side business rather than my primary employment.

    Back when there were .... let's call them... booth ladies....I was invited to go to Blizzcon for my work. It was the year Ozzy played. Had I known I might not have said no. :(

    I rarely see them at DragonCon but they are out in force at the Arnold Fitness Expo (1st weekend of March in Columbus, OH). Nearly every vendor in the massive vendor hall has 2-6 very fit women promoting their nutritional supplements, protein powders, exercise equipment, athletic ware, etc.
