  • I wish you could link the clip they’re referring to

  • @PrettyLuv - Of the Golden ball show? They play the section of the show that’s referred to on the podcast itself.

  • I would have loved to watch that section alone. I listened to the whole thing. For anyone else interested you don’t have to sign up to radiolab, just click to listen to the podcast or read the transcript here: https://radiolab.org/podcast/golden-rule-2304/transcript

Basic synopsis: Golden Balls - one ball is split, the other steal. At the end you choose to either split or steal from the person across from you. If both choose split, you split the prize money, if both choose steal - both walk away with nothing (cancels out), if one chooses steal & the other chooses split, the stealer takes the bundle. At some point in the game, the players must talk with the other to reach an agreement on funds or intention, but despite whatever is said, it’s the golden ball chosen that counts. What would you choose?

I think what Nick did was brilliant and telling of his personality. Risk without risk. He took the embarrassment & fear of the common adverse character fault and laid it out on the table so it was no longer a source of fear but transparency. To let the other choose what he would normally have chosen if no fear were involved. It’s a common tactic employed by psychologists & analysts as well. Gets to the undercurrent without all the false turbulence. I like it.

My natural inclination is to split but I would probably have done something similar to how he did it, maybe in reverse. It goes to show that at the end of the day only you & God know your true decision & heart.
