I'd like to make more forum topics but it seems there's no way for users to delete their own posts without a mod? Is this correct?
As far as I know, we can not. And the posts don't even get deleted, They go to this magical thread retirement area only accessible by mods

You can post threads and comments, usually edit your posts, and delete them, but after a certain amount of time anything posted becomes "locked" and you can no longer delete them, only a Mod can at that point. It's to prevent people posting things which break the forum rules then later deleting them after baiting others to respond. Editing is still possible and I've brought it up a few times about keeping editing history log for Mods to be able to see should someone edit their comment to say "." when they are unable to delete it and are trying to hide what they said. Luckily those who report those comments usually are able to grab a screenshot to submit for reports.
