Las Vegas Recs - Or Other Trip Ideas

Headed to Vegas soon. What do y’all recommend I check out? Anyone have some favorite Vegas memories?

I’m into clubs, so I’ll definitely want to go to a couple while I’m there. So far my favorite is Marquee. I didn’t swim there, but I liked the dance floor/table layout. Recently went to Hakkasan, and while the light setup was cool, didn’t like the dance floor/table layout tbh.

Also, feel free to drop other trip ideas. I need some travel inspiration. Currently considering running off to work at a small goat farm in Denmark.

  • Sunday drum circle at Red Rock. South Oak Creek trail.

  • @GrayKunz I'm curious, as you're a local there , what's the latest F1 impact for you and other locals?

  • @bobadevotee Go for a tour of old Vegas on segway. You can find it on Viator. There's a stop at the famous Pawn Stars shop, but I found that to be overrated. Check out the container park, loads of street art, some of the original casinos that now look rough, and vintage shops. Great restraurant tips from the segway guides for afterwards. This is totally "off strip" and might not be what you are looking for, but I loved it. https://www.viator.com/tours/Las-Vegas/Self-Guided-City-Food-and-Culture-Tour-on-Scooters-Featuring-Pawn-Stars/d684-110642P11

  • And... Letty’s De Leticias Cocina. Also off strip, a few blocks from arts district. Some of the best Mexican food I've tasted.

@bobadevotee Unless you're really set on staying on the Strip, it's absolutely worth it to stay a little ways out of the way both for costs and noise. I really appreciated being able to go "home" to the hotel that was still really nice and barely a mile away from all the action, but at less than half the cost of all the hotels on the main drag.

Pro tip from a former hospitality worker: 3rd party booking sites (Expedia, Hotels.com, Kayak, etc.) aren't really a good deal. For one, if you have a points membership you aren't getting points when you book with a 3rd party. The reservations are usually a headache if you run into any problems, and the discounts are actually the same level as AAA/AARP/Senior/Web discounts - plus the hotel isn't getting a chunk because the 3rd party takes their fee. I always book direct - the hotel is far more likely to grant requests and be able to help out.

I don't know if "O" is still performing, but whatever Cirque du Soleil show is on is bound to be worth it! If you aren't able to get tickets in advance, they do have a limited number of tickets available at the door, but you have to get there early and there's a chance they'll run out 3 people ahead of you - have backup plans.

  • @cuddlefaery my lodging is already handled, I have lots of friends in the area :)

  • @bobadevotee even better! All the times I've been to Vegas have been for conferences or passing through, so I didn't have the luxury to spend much time sight seeing. I hope you have a great time with your friends!

  • @OhioMike The general consensus is that we hate it. All the required roadwork and stage building is making the strip a very bad place to drive through. Perhaps the only redeeming quality is that the repaved roads will be nice when it's over, but I'm not sure it's really worth it. It's not like they are giving the locals any real deals on F1 tickets, so all of this really feels like it's being built for someone else.

  • @GrayKunz yeah that’s the word I’m hearing all the way here in Ohio. One of my sons is an F1 super fan and we thought about going but after researching the event , we felt maybe we will go to another F1 event somewhere other than Vegas.

@bobadevotee have fun on your trip. Nice to have friends there ! 😊. Looks like you got the south end of strip covered with destinations 👍

Fremont street experiences aren’t for everyone but I’m finding I’m liking it more. I’ve been going to Vegas for @25 years now It’s definitely one of my potential retirement destinations 🌞

Last time I was there I went to Area 15 where the Meow Wolf Omega Mart is located. That place is really cool. I have been there twice now, as well as the one in Colorado and Texas. There also seemed like there was other fun stuff to do at Area 15. I also want to visit the neighborhood that named its streets after Pokémon 😂

  • Meow Wolf was pretty fun and they have a Cosmic Howl coming up that sounds like a good time.

  • @quixotic_life
Woah a Cosmic Howl? I need to look that up!
