Yeah, I looked into them recently and it took no time at all to establish that they are, at best, very dodgy. I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.
Scams are rampant these days. I am talking to a scammer right now.
@pmvines Wow, thanks for this. I haven't used TEMU, because I figured it was one of those sites that actually has crappy prices, but lures you in with one good promotion deal, or it's like wish.com and they just have garbage. But I didn't figure it to be a straight up scam.
@JasonCuddles were you being sacarstic or joking? If not, hope you messed them about before reporting them.
Though anyone can be a victim when I think of a scammers, immediately picture those ones that target the elderly especially during this time of the year. Not to incite violence but scammers need to be publicly flogged with people throwing tomatoes at them. Actually spare the tomatoes.

@CuddleTeddy4U That's awesome and although I don't know the term for it, if there's any, that may be part of a marketing/scam strategy. "Take care of some people, while messing up others." That way there are mixed review. It may also just be the timing and perhaps around the time you were using them, things were fine or not so bad. Though apparently some are saying watch out. I never had an affinity for online shopping and don't really like it, though it's good to know anyway and at least be cautious no matter what or who we are dealing with.
@4cuddles there is nobody to report them to, and yes I am serious about talking to them. It has been 17 days so far. I am wondering how long they will go before saying they want me to buy them a plane ticket or whatever.
One of my favorite scams is when you get a random text from some new number where they are clearly phishing for info. It’s always something like “Hi, Thomas! This is Mary. Are we still meeting for coffee?” Followed by some stock photo of an attractive woman in some unidentified location. I usually just string them along to waste their time and then finally just block/report them.
I enjoy watching youtube videos of scammers either raging from someone wasting their time for many hours or ones where someone hacks a scammer and messes up their computers or sometimes entire call center. I recall there was also one where a scammer called a police station 😂.

@MrMarkAndrew I get the same exact scam hahaha! I've received text messages like oh hi Amy! Let's meet up together at a golf course to discuss about business. Recently I also had "Hey there! I need the evening dress to be done by this week. " The longer you talk to them, they later on ask you for your name, where you are from, and to send a picture of yourself. And if you address that they got the wrong person/name, then they follow up with "Am I disturbing you?"
@CuddleBarista1 Wow, thanks for sharing. I just recently got a message elsewhere that says this "Hi, I was wondering if there was a video chat today?" actually. No idea who the person is, and I guess I can't know unless I accept the message. It's likely exactly what you described.
@Lovelight Haven't gotten that one yet, but more than likely the dialogue will come up the same results. They are getting a bit more sophisticated, casual, pretending to be your friend, and sweet talker with these text scams.
I got a flashlight from Temu but it broke after a few uses. It was cheap junk that's for sure. Thankfully no credit card fraud.

@CharlieBear when I'd buy dollar store earphones, I seem to noticed that they'd 'break' much more quicker than before. I'm not sure what gives, though I think quality has overall gone down in some regards. I've now been using Bluetooth for a while which have so far been okay.
I used Temu after it seems like indirect pressure from many people. I think the site is poor quality, many the products are subpar most times, but what can you expect for $1.30 for a 44 inch tv? I've had some products forever to arrive and I've been refund when things never arrive. I did however google if it was stealing info and didn't find any reports of that. The BBB didn't have much negative to report, with that said it's not worth using and i did delete the app. Scamming is the capitalist way anyway.
@CuddleBarista1 exactly. Eventually they will get to more specific details like can you help me cash a check, will you accept a wire transfer, and so on. Just trying to lull people into a false sense of security by pretending to be interested in them. I’m sure it must work at least some of the time, unfortunately.
@MrMarkAndrew I haven't gone too far for them to say that. The furthest I have gotten in the text message that I have seen is when you mentioned about them sending a picture of a girl. They never send a picture of a guy for some reason. I could see that trick can work to people who feel lonely and they want to be validated by a complete stranger of an opposite sex. It is close(r) to believable than most scams that I have seen so far.
@CuddleBarista1 yeah, exactly. They are usually nice but not quite supermodel looking so they probably get people who are wanting some positive attention from a conventionally attractive person. Once they get people wrapped up in an ongoing conversation I can imagine it becomes easier to try and manipulate them.
@MrMarkAndrew I LOVE getting those phishing texts! I have a whole list of fun responses to send to those people 😅
Sometimes I play along....but in a weird way like:
Scammer: Hello, do you own "blank" property and would you be willing to sell it? -"random name" Me: Yeah, but make sure you replace all the carpets and some of the drywall....and probably the ceiling fans too. My mom killed my dad here last year and do you know how impossible it is to get blood stains out???
Sometimes I go subtle and string them along before I send something like that. 😜

@MrMarkAndrew it would definitely be harder to believe that a super model is bored out of their mind texting random strangers than a girl next door sending you a random text. Definitely agree with you.
