Final Fantasy XIV is an Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing game that launched in 2010. It was a poor quality game with numerous issues such as glitches and there wasn't a while lot to do in terms on content. Square-Enix took note of that and decided to kill the original game and redesign it. the original was shut down in the most epic way possible.
In the days leading to it's shut down, there was a red moon gradually approaching. On the day and time when the game was scheduled to be shut down, Bahmaut (a dragon in the Final Fantasy universe) breaks out of the moon and destroys everything right before kicking everyone off. The server then goes offline before relaunching 9 months later as FFXIV: A Realm Reborn which became the most critically acclaimed MMORPG even surpassing World of Warcraft.
