Text bombing

____## Has anyone else experienced this?____
You provide your # to further discuss arrangements but then the person gets very chat happy…. And believe me, I’m a talker and love a good text convo. But after I’ve said things like “I’ve gotta run” 5 times, my only option left is to just simply stop replying. :/

  • I turn off all my texts notifications for just this reason. I'll get to it when I get to it. I don't like all the dinging and pinging and ringing. I don't even want to see it flashing up on my screen. People can call if it's important.

  • Yes with a few clients. Just have to set boundaries. I’ve had to tell them that texting me after 9pm or before 9 am is just not acceptable. And don’t feel pressured into answering every and all text immediately. I would turn off notifications to their number and check it on your own time.

  • Sometimes, texting is the bomb.

Double and triple texting is like....

  • Some people treat this like it's a dating website and don't understand that pros often give their number out to discuss booking arrangements only.

Get a free number for your "Pro" business activity only and save your "real" phone number. I use the "Text Free" app (I actually pay a little bit for some extra services like voice calling) but it allows me to separate my online activities from my physical professional life.

  • I keep communication on here and give them my number just for an emergency on the way or running late. They can send everything else on here.

I am the king of silly gifs memes and vids so when you give me your number it kinda comes with that as a disclaimer .

I will say that there are likely some pretty lonely people who aren't used to having numbers of people who they can text and likely are caught in the excitement of having what they perceived as a new friend (whether that is mutual or reciprocated is beside the point ), so that likely accounts for a good portion of the excessive texting . Professional boundaries are a hard thing to maintain sometimes once there is open access to communicating off-site unfortunately .

  • Anyone whose number I have has received pictures of my cat.

  • What @pmvines said. 👌🏽

  • @Minestrone101 -.I sometimes get bored and see what I can balance on him.

  • @Mike403 Amazing. And cute.

  • @oxoxcourtlove stop replying is not the only option. Only last week I blocked a pro that was harassing me over a private line by text.

  • @oxoxcourtlove yes it's a common problem for women on this site, and occasionally for men.

It is true that amongst prospective and new clients/cuddlebuddies there may sometimes be found creeps, weirdos (derog.), boundary-pushers, perverts, time-wasters, sex pests and outright criminals. However, there are also plenty of perfectly nice, totally harmless people who are just very lonely and have poor social skills. For some of them, it's a real novelty simply to have somebody to text.

Such people often respond well to a kind and clear - and very firm - explanation of the right way to behave. They have no actual desire to break boundaries.

Having set boundaries, it is important that you respect them - and respect yourself - by enforcing them consistently. Again, starting kindly and gently is usually best, but escalate very rapidly to fierceness if required. If you're not very good at being fierce .... this is a good opportunity to practice.

For example, if you've said 'gotta run' once, then stop replying at that point. It's not rude: the other person is being rude (possibly unintentially) by continuing to message you.

Alternatively, explain to them what 'gotta run' means, either at the time or later.

  • Yup. Too often too many uncontrolled texting.

I’m likely guilty. I’ll prob send a pic of recent adventure activity. Though I also tell myself that I can refrain from too much, and I think I understand “gotta go” or what ev the vib for “you need to stop texting me” is.

Oh, here is a shot from this weekend. On the other hand, lmk if you want to see more of adventures.

    Hahaha

  • A few friends of mine experienced this, and it’s why I don’t give out my number. Dudes just kept bothering them and never met up. They just wanted a woman to talk to them for free.

Politely set the boundary once, then if they don’t respect it, say you charge by the hour for texting services 🤷‍♀️ you’re a pro.

Same deal if I wanted to get a therapist to talk to me for an hour; I’d have to pay for it.

  • @bobadevotee great response 💯
@sr182 pics go great with my profile pic! ⛷️ although I’m still on the bunny slopes 🤣🤣

  • @Tigerlilly32 yes! You do look the ski bunny too! Lmk when you visit for ski.

  • Would recommend having a burner number like TextNow etc. You don’t want to give out your real number
