Bed warming and cooling

edited May 2024 in General

Saw an ad for people to come lay in my bed and get it the right temperature as well as set an ambiance. I guess royals used to get it before hvac. Im seriuosly considering it.

I hope they dont mind I live in a tent and sleep in a sleeping bag.

I may reach out to see if its in my budget first

  • πŸ˜… Electric blankets are a thing of beauty. No cooties. Adjustable heat settings. Automatic shutoff. Left and right side controls if you have a significant other with different temperature preferences. Ahhh. πŸ”₯

I used to live in a house in a very cold climate with the only heat coming from a wood stove. I found a couple of bed-warming, green stones (soapstone?), with rings set in them so they could be moved with a standard fireplace poker, in a junk shop. They that made my bed toasty in winter along with a couple of large hounds. πŸΎπŸ•

I'm sure if the money is there, you'll be able to find someone to make sure you have good tent ambience. 😁

@SunsetSnuggles: You are right about electric blankets!

That's fascinating! I've never heard of those, but it reminded me of the incorrect use of the historical bed warmers shown in Pirates of the Caribbean, when the maid pulls it out of the covers that Elizabeth is already under. πŸ˜¬πŸ˜†

You filled them with embers and let them warm the bed...before you got in. πŸ˜„

I've used hot water bottles with cloth covers in sleeping bags, before.

  • You could join the Navy. "Hot bunking" is a thing.

@SunsetSnuggles: I've used hot water bottles too. Less trouble than the stones, but I think the stones did a better job. Much like the bottles, you wrap the stones usually before you put them in the bed, but you don't have to.

This brings up a memory of a prank from a P.G. Wodehouse, "Jeeves and Wooster" story where someone was sleeping and Wooster sneaks into their room and pokes their waterborne with a needle but he accidentally does it to the wrong person ...

Haha ... my grandparents had one of those and as a child I didn't know what it was and tried to make popcorn in it. 🍿

  • @HarleyGirlKate PG Wodehouse! β™₯️ Best antics

  • @SBG Yes! P.G. Wodehouse was the best. Love both his books and the TV show.

  • @HarleyGirlKate did you ever see the old Wodehouse Playhouse? Way before Fry & Laurie

  • I need someone to make my bed cool. 🀣 Summer is brutal for me. πŸ˜‚

@SunsetSnuggles You made a very good point. Not only are there electric blankets, but there are also WEIGHTED electric blankets to be even more warm and cozy.
