Would cuddling while reading be something others would be or are interested in?
I would love this so much! I love books almost as much as I love cuddling, so this would make for a perfect cuddle, for me.
Absolutely not ! It's unfathomable to combine two enjoyable leisure activities like that ! Before you know it people will be eating meals while listening to music , and pooping while scrolling through You Tube ! The insanity ! Be gone from this place you mad person !
What if they don't read good?
I've done it before with friends.
Iโd start with something really long. Like say: Life and Fate, Lord of the Rings, just to give us time to get comfortable.
Choose a book you can both read together, such as...
But, of course! ๐ค๐ ๐ค
While cuddling is to be the main focus, companionship is a part of this.
I have read to a few of my clients and quite honestly love it.
Reading and connection through literature and the human voice is sublimely wonderful, peaceful and inspiring.
I have been thinking of hosting excerpts reading/film/music talent or appreciation cuddle galas to foster more all-inclusive positive summits.
I would love to take turns reading while cuddling or just be the one doing the reading, though I never met anyone else in many years who has expressed interest in this when I brought it up.
Funny, I mentioned it to someone I met and cuddled with as an enthusiast--such a lovely, sweet man, but I digress. (This wasn't too long ago.) He was kind of "meh" about the idea, which was fine but unsurprising. I don't think that would be most people's jam, but it certainly is mine.
I had a close friend in the early 80s where we bonded by both being alone and lonely in the military and became friends and cuddled a lot. We took turns reading to each other, which was so much fun.
In the 90s I read to people in a nursing home, until honestly I had to stop because I kept bonded with the residents and they kept passing. After the 8th or so time this happened I couldn't handle it anymore.
So I love to read and cuddle. Pretty much anything really, but I'd like to cuddle and reread some Plato, particularly his Theory of Forms. Also, Herodotus.
@zerolight40: I liked Lord of the Rings quite a bit; loved a lot of JRRT's poetry. "The Hoard" is one of my favorites and I used to be able to recite it from memory.
@HarleyGirlKate Yes!!! I hail from a large farm and military family and we still video call and read to one another, worldwide. It bonds and connects our families and friends so well. Book clubs sort of ran a course but sharing our snippets of favs or what we wanted to share currently, is much better IMOE. Family ran a nursing/hospice home and I grew up reading to the residents as well. I love too. It is healing and my jam.
@SunshineHug: Yes, I think you are right about how reading together is bonding, and I think it is great your family does that--especially making it work with the distance. Too many families, I think, end up with weak bonds because of the separation that comes with moving far away for jobs, school, adventures, climate, etc.
Many of us (I wonder if it is still a thing?) were read to and-or read to our kids a lot. I found that to be a great bonding experience and some of my earliest and most cherished memories are being read to as a child, and also reading to my daughters.
I think it is sad that many (most?) lose doing that after childhood. Especially if they don't have kids, or their kids get used to screens and don't want to be read to or if they do they want it to come from their phone.
I'm glad to find that there are other people on here who like to read and cuddle. Perhaps the desire is more common than I thought it was.
Thank you everyone for your responses. I appreciate it so much ๐๐.
You know, I feel like it would be fun to start a YouTube channel where I platonically cuddle with someone on camera and we read to each other. ๐ฅฐ
@HarleyGirlKate forget about it. I mean let's be real. No skin no clicks.
@Sooson Party pooper. ๐๐พ๐
Fair enough, certainly sex sells, you aren't wrong, yet many YouTube channels I subscribe to have zero sex or skin and do very well. Besides, for me, YouTube is a hobby. It isn't something I need to make money at. Reading old books I like sounds like fun, even without cuddling or making money.
@HarleyGirlKate If you start a channel I'll subscribe
@Sooson: I suspect if I do it'll mostly be me amusing myself since the books I like aren't very popular, but thank you--any and all subscribers would/will be appreciated. ๐
Whats a curiouser
"Curiouser and curiouser," said Alice. (from Alice in Wonderland)
I read to my Mom in hospice every week. She is calmed by it and I can visit longer with the distraction. She has a roommate who often stays to listen. Music from her youth is a big hit too. She read to me as a child, I read to my kids, my kids read with me, and I read to her. It's full circle here. Listening to a story while being cuddled with the right partner could be an incredible experience. But like going to poetry reading the quality of the experience may vary greatly.
@HarleyGirlKate Reading on YouTube could be an interesting activity. Did you ever watch Shelly Duvals Bedtime Stories? She chose quirky books. There is so much literature out there that hearing excerpts would be a great way to find new reads.
@HarleyGirlKate We read out loud in my household almost daily. Below is information about reading a chapter or book on a free audio book website. Weโve listened to many books on YouTube, and probably at least one on Librivox. Itโs cool when each chapter is by a different person. Happy cuddling and reading.
And to @hoping4snugs, Thatโs sweet you are reading to your mom. I have done that for a lady in the nursing home before. She loved it.
Being read to lulls me straight to sleep, so I save that for my boyfriend. ๐

Iโd love to do that but almost all of my books I enjoy reading are psychological horrors ๐ maybe it would scare off the creepers?
The last lady i fell in love with a few years back, would hold me and read to me. I think thats what did it. And we'd take turns sometimes, but she enjoyed it.
I say that to say I'd like it, I'm sure.
I donโt read books during my own free time so I would not pay to read or have someone read to me. They have audiobooks for a reason, but Iโm sure that if you meet up with an avid reader then they most likely wouldnโt mind
I have a very deep voice, I think like someone like Barry White. Iโve been asked to read for people, Iโve been asked to sing, sometimes people just wanna hear my voice. I apparently have a very soothing voice. For a lot of people it made them feel comfortable.
I would LOVE to read while being cuddled, tho I can't promise I wouldn't fall asleep ๐ I'm not sure about being read TO, however. Can't turn a person up to 1.5x speed.
@SBG 1.5x speed! My two ADHD kiddos do that and it makes me nuts. I'm a bit relieved they are not alone in that practice. I'm more .5x speed, can we go repeat that last section? Not sure I got it kinda listener.
Me personally, no, not interested in reading while cuddling but if someone wanted to read while I cuddled with them, thatโs fine. Iโd rather them read than talk too much lol
