When you are blocked; what does it mean when it says; "Please note that attempting to circumvent a block will result in a permanent ban." ?
It means that attempting to circumvent a block will result in a permanent ban.
It means what it says. If you have been blocked, that means the person doesn't want to hear from you. If you try to communicate with them by other means, you are being disrespectful and may end up banned.
If you have legitimate reasons to try and contact them, for example they blocked you in the middle of an unresolved payment dispute, and you have clean hands, then ask the mods for help.
'Clean hands' means you have been honest, reasonable and polite throughout. If, for example, you have used abusive language then I suspect you'll get little sympathy from the mods even if you are in the right.
Great question, since we aren't notified about being blocked and only know if we click on the blocker's profile. Blocks don't work on the forums, unlike other sites. Once blocked, you can't DM the other person. I believe you can still tag them on the forums (and they can tag you.)
@starrynitecuds " I believe you can still tag them on the forums (and they can tag you.)"
@RenaissanceEQ ~ That quote is an example of one "circumventing a block". If the moderators believe one knows they were blocked, and yet they still tag the person who blocked them (in the forums), then they might ban/close that person's account.
Best to just not try contacting or interacting with that person after seeing that.
The Forums are public-Anyone can post here.
@quixotic_life According to your logic- I can block you right now and if you then respond to any of my posts- You could be banned.
That is not how that works and it certainly should be a problem for everyone if that were the case.
No one is being forced to read or post on the forums-and no one should be told to avoid the forums either- who someone chooses to block on their profile is totally up to them.
To then suggest that- now - that I block someone they need to avoid interacting on the forums because I might be there -and they could be banned for interacting with me is absolutely ridiculous.
BO ~ Have either of us blocked the other? I have no idea if you've blocked me, perhaps I should check. But nobody said to avoid the forums. Just to not tag those who you know don't want to hear from you.
edited for typos
I have never blocked anyone and could care less if anyone blocks me
That was an example- I don't believe posting or tagging someone on a forum should ever be grounds for banning.
Just my opinion. Nothing personal.
@quixotic_life Fun fact, there are some delicate flowers here who have blocked my profile, but they still tag me on the posts. How's that work? LOL
@starrynitecuds I recently blocked several people for safety reasons. Allowing transphobes to see my basic info and pictures is an unnecessary risk. So no, not everyone who blocks you is a "delicate flower" as you so demeaningly put it.
I also wonder if the people who have blocked me are also delicate flowers.
I have seen mods warn people not to tag others that they have emphatically stated previously they did not want to talk to. I have not seen anyone timed out or banned for doing that as yet.
@WriterGF - How do you know? People are banned all the tine and it doesn't say what they were banned for.
@starrynitecuds ~ I'm not sure why they'd do that, though my guess would be you've fallen into a "blocked due not being a match (vs anything nefarious)" category, but there is a handy-dandy 'report' feature where you could inform a mod and let them handle it (should such a thing bother you.
@BrianOcean ~ "I don't believe posting or tagging someone on a forum should ever be grounds for banning." It's when it is a form of harassment or intrusion that a ban is implemented.
Consider for a moment... Person P crosses the boundaries of person V. Person V blocks them. Person P then wants to reach out, get closure, or perhaps plead their case. So they tag person V in the forum. Person V reports. Mods use their discretion and choose to inform person P to not engage. Person P disregards and attempts in getting a reation/reply from person V yet again.
This isn't only a violation of site rules, this is a form of stalking/harassment.
Hopefully this doesn't apply to those here now, but I can assure you it certainly has to others. Because whether one likes it or not, "No" means "No". And how fortunate we all are that there are people and processes in place to minimize that sort of abuse from taking place here without consequences.
To all who take great care in tending to our community garden ~ π¨βπΎπ»π·βοΈπͺ»πΊππΎ Thank you. Sincerely, A. Delicate Flower
I am and will always be against banning in almost all cases. People should be able to say what they want.
There was recently a suggestion that some one got a time out for "Baiting" what ever the hell that is supposed to mean.
It does cause one to curiously wonder how certain people can CONSTANTLY get away with slandering people by calling them transphobes and wildly alleging all kinds of things.
There was a recent post where members users names were individually listed and they were all called "known Transphobes"
It seems to me that would be violating Terms of Service
Again- I have no problem with people exercising their freedom of speech.
Just be strong enough to hear responses that you may not like
Perhaps that is why there is a STRONG sentiment that the rules are clearly not the same for everyone.
Is that really even debateable any more?
Each person has to decide that for themselves
@quixotic_life - I've been blocked by people I never spoken to. It makes me wonder what boundary i crossed.
@Mike403 True.
Whoops editing to add @BrianOcean
π¬ - Eesh. Yeah, that doesn't sound good either.
"Baiting" is for sure a thing on here though. I mean, I know I've been 'low-key' guilty... I had the whole "hee-hee, this'll get em!" mentality... I know I was on the right side of the argument, but I overstepped and got nailed for it. He did too, but not before he called me a "racist" and it was left hanging in the forum for all to see (without anything from the mods stating timeouts were in effect). At least now they tend to edit offenses as well as comment on actions taken.
I guess I'm just saying I understand things feeling unfair at times. It certainly did to me back then. But the fact is, I wasn't contributing to the overall good of the order myself. The degee to which that's true doesn't really matter - I'd messed up, was reported, and dealth with.
We may not like all the actions taken ~ but at least they try to be impartial and fair.
@starrynitecuds
there are some delicate flowers here who have blocked my profile...
Truth.
In these instances, being blocked is like a beautiful ray of light radiating down from the heavens.
@BrianOcean

True, but I'm glad that post was actually left intact. It's a clear example of the Paradox of the Tolerant's Intolerance for all to see.
@Mike403 and @WriterGF Lots of people use the "Block" as a way of weeding out potential cuddlers. Like for whatever reason they don't want to cuddle with you so they block (meaning it's not because of anything you have or haven't done).
It brings back the wish for there to be other sorting options, because... β’ Add to favorites β’ Add as a friend/Unfriend β’ Block β’ Report β’ Make a note ... just aren't adequate.
I think they should add: β’ Don't show in search results β’ Don't display messages from and β’ Potential cuddler/friend β’ Only corresponding with/friendly β’ Pending/Unsure of
It would certainly give us all better ways of grouping those we interact with.
And while I'm at it... They should give us a better messaging system too (because this one is a clunky-ass nighmare to search through)!
Thanks for coming to my BedSquawk.
@TxTom It's actually "The Paradox of Tolerance".
@quixotic_life Blocking, really, (and I have been guilty of this) is really more for emotional satisfaction sometimes. A lot of the times, the person you block was never going to message you anyway. I prefer what LinkedIn has, where a block means you don't have to see their posts ever again. Saves a lot of scrolling.
@quixotic_life - It's depressing when a local pro that I was considering booking once I get a job and become more financially stable decides to block me. It makes me wonder if it was something I said in the forums.
There are people here who I think are complete douche bags but I don't block them merely for the fact that I've never been sent messages by them. Even then I wouldn't block unless they messaged something that blatantly and purposely crossed a major line with me
"What I got blocked?" "Maybe I can get help from the forums."
If you get blocked just take it and move on. Don't post, Don't apologize, Don't wonder about your behavior or try to explain or correct it. Don't think about it all night. Don't do anything except dissappear for awhile. Oh, and Don't ask people in your friend group about your block cause they might block and unfriend you too. Don't go back in time cause time travel won't even save you, unless you know why ya got blocked. Dam..then you get back in the machine, go ahead in time and get blocked again...(I'm joking)
Hope this helps
I've been blocked a few times. Not often as far as I know. One time was because I had enough of being guilted by someone I thought was a friend and so I tried to tell them politely that I have a life outside of them. I ended up blocking them back and feeling a sense of relief. This was the only person I have blocked actually so far. Another time was when I was trying to book and schedule with a pro and I suppose they got impatient that I couldn't book at a certain date (I was trying to message to reschedule and nothing was officially booked yet). At first I was a little annoyed, but then thought it's better this way. The other time was after I sent the first friendly hello greeting message to someone and found that I was instantly blocked just for saying hello. how are you and welcome to the site. That one puzzled me but I moved on. In all cases I had no desire to contact these people after being blocked.
As I've suggested in the "website improvement" thread, the forum tagging auto-populate feature should be disabled for any User whom has blocked you. If you find yourself having to fully type out their username--that would be a clue.
Also, regarding forums, if you've never DM'ed another User or attempted to visit their profile, you will not know they've blocked you.
In this regard, CC needs to publish clear guidelines about whether tagging someone in the forums is considered circumventing a block.
Hmm lots of lingos here going over my head. Can I doublecheck is tagging here when you write @ someone's user name within the forums?
And if someone who you blocked tagged you in the forum please call 911 if you feel you are in immediate danger.
