I like the Mods. @CharlieBear is a favorite.

How do they get selected?

Has there ever been a push to bring some DEI into the mod mix? All seem like white males to me and given the diversity the community has I just wonder what focus there is to do something like this.

Odd they are volunteers for a for profit company, but I'm not sure CPA

Well it's kinda like losing a bet that results in some form of punishment or undesired tasks, this case being a mod on CC

In seriousness the site owner @mark let's folks on the forum know when they need one and if they have any suggestions of folks who would make a good one to submit, or he will just reach out personally to someone if he has somebody in mind who he feels would be a good fit. I've been in the mod conversation a couple times since I joined here but I eagerly shot it down lol, I know me and know id have a really hard time being neutral on certain issues. Plus you find out things about site members that you'd likely much rather not knowing and Lord knows there are so many unsolicited dick pics that you could publish an anthology of unsolicited dick pic coffee table books. Not sure id want to have to review those.

I had another rant typed up but I feel like I ranted too soon to do it again. Also OP I do not deserve any praise. Other mods are way better and do a lot more than I do.

@CuddleBreeze4 I know there have been mods of color in the past (there's a lot of turnover among mods, due to the amount of garbage they have to deal with) and there have been a number of female mods. I don't know what the mix is now.

As for them being volunteers, if CC had to start paying them, they would probably have to start charging a membership fee to join the site and membership would crater.

@starrynitecuds and @Sheena123 seem like make good ambassadors. But imagine being a mod is heavy with all the crap.

@CharlieBear or @JoyfulHeart, you two are both more active, at least on the forums. What motivates you to help?

My motivation is gratitude for how this site has changed my life, and a desire to help keep it a safe and cuddly place for others.

Do we have any statistics of the racial breakdown of users ? Then you can use that to have ethnically appropriate mods. @CuddleBreeze4 what type of representation would you like to see, and what percentage of the mods should fill that.

It also comes down to, do we know if a more diverse crowd is applying for this job? It seems like hard and sometimes thankless work and probably a lot of people don't have the spare time/inclination to do it.

I'm aware that any action taken by moderators will be considered incorrect by someone. Not taking action will also be considered incorrect. I'm not complaining about this: it's just a fact.

There have been suggestions in this thread that other people apply to share the responsibility. I don't know any of the moderators that wouldn't be thrilled to have more help. Forum moderation is something that takes more time and work than general site moderation, so we often take turns tagging out.

Diversity in all things is great but there ahas to be diversity in interest. I doubt there is a line of people wanting to do this work. I wouldn't know but i doubt it. For free or otherwise seems like a job only a few would do.

Also diversity extends to more than race and gender, you should have an adequate amount of D!k head Mods to make things even, so be careful what you ask for.

Some good responses from the members here. I can think of at least 5 moderators past and present that weren't white males. But someone who just joined this month, I can see how someone can see that currently . But we have been blessed with really good moderators in my opinion and I have been fortunate along with many others here to meet them ! 👍

It has been touched on above but not only can a member nominate someone for moderator, but you can nominate yourself also. I have nominated a handful of peeps over the years who I think would be good for the position and plan to keep doing that.

And building on a comment above, the forum community is extremely small, percentage wise, than the whole membership of CC. And seeing how forums everywhere (Not Just Here) in general seem more of a venting place, I can see why its challenging to find peeps to moderate this community. I am glad we have some peeps step up! Thank you moderators past, present, and future! 🙏

It seems awfully sus that a brand new member would already have a favorite mod and be making statements about the lack of diversity among the mods. My money is on that being a former member who got banned.

@JohnR1972 good points 👍 Before the OP got banned here, I was hoping to share that, yes today the moderator team may not appear that diverse but over the years there has been some diversity on the moderator team. Has it been enough, likely not.
I do keep thinking about this part though: As much as we all dig the forum here, the vast CC community continues to find little interest in the forums. I understand peeps are passionate about it here....but my experience is again the vast vast CC world really has no interest in this feature.
But one way is to start nominating people to @Mark with the peeps you want to see. I for one would still like to see a Pro on the moderator teams and that's who I usually nominate in the past.
I know the volunteer / not getting paid issue is divisive. I'm for paying the mods even if that means a membership fee to cover that. But that's just me. I realize it is a minority opinion at this time and for some that's a no go!
In the meantime I will just keep thinking of some of the members who I think would be good at the mod position and nominate them. 😊

There have been all kinds of people on the moderating team - people of colour, gay, women. The site owners are not prejudiced. Although most users are American, the site is British, and here in the UK discrimination on the basis of any 'protected characteristic' is generally unlawful.

Selecting mods is instrinsically a nightmare since the proportion of people who are suitable is small, and almost by definition anybody who is suitable wouldn't want to do it.

The problem is made all the harder because one huge group of users, namely professionals, cannot be mods for obvious reasons.

For the first 2/3 of its existence this site didn't make a dime and the idea of paid mods was a non-starter. Only in recent years has it brought in any income. But remember that the forum, in and of itself, is not revenue-generating. Paid mods would also interfere with the community dynamic which, having observed their behaviour over several years, is clearly genuinely important to the site owners.

I'd probably be too aggressive about transphobic, misogynistic, and other bigoted content. I don't tolerate that kind of stuff at all. A number of people here can attest to that.
