The Nashville Zoo is my favorite zoo in the U.S.
Every winter, when many zoos close for the season, the Nashville Zoo transforms into a spectacular nighttime experience called “Zoolumination”.
That looks spectacular! It is often said photos don't do something justice, so it must be a real incredible sight in-person. I've never heard of this before. Thanks for sharing.
@TxTom - You are welcome! While I was very pleased with the photo quality from my new iPhone, you are correct about the photos don’t do the experience justice. I think it runs from early November through late February so I would encourage anyone in the area, or passing through Nashville to check it out.
Were reservations or special tickets (like after-hours only) required?
@starrynitecuds - You can purchase tickets online then scan a QR code when you arrive, or you can just do a walk up. The gates opened at 5:00 pm.
This was my first time attending Zoolumination but every year they have a different theme. This year’s theme was The Year of the Dragon. Some of the displays were related to the Chinese Zodiac and they had traditional Chinese music playing in some areas.
Thanks for posting, that looks like a great time. I don’t have any wonderful pics but for the west coasters that don’t get back east very often I’d also plug the San Diego Zoo and Safari Parks.
Both offer some great December night time fun, although personally I’ve enjoyed the Safari Park slightly more.
You really don’t have to travel to Nashville to see displays like that. Almost every zoo has that this time of the year. Check your local zoo. There are two companies that work with zoos to put these on every Holiday season. Here are a few:
