Loneliness you can't just fix

  • The "empty platitudes" in this thread are people who take their thoughts, time, and energy to care. To inquire. To understand.

Human beings and our imperfections are not the villain. If there's anything to generalize, every one of us can understand loneliness and that's why everyone is choosing to do their part in alleviating that in this thread, including @Runawaycuddles who has been thoughtful to respond to every one of us.

Sometimes there is no solution. No fix in sight.

Seeing each other is a powerful step.

@tacpmurg In that case, this section of my post seems to be the most relevant to what you're aiming at

"I know there's not much that can be done about the situation. I know the number of people who's lifestyles actually fit mine is vanishingly small, and there's not much hope in looking for something like that, especially something that would last longer term and be a good personality fit on top of everything else. I'm mostly just venting my frustration about it all, and this is the only place I can really do that where some people can relate.

It just sucks to be lonely in a way you can't fix with effort alone"

I can definitely relate to feeling like talking about issues, especially systemic ones that don't have an easy or quick fix can often feel futile. I think we all wish, to some degree, the problems that hurt us could be solved by just taking about them.
But as any good therapist will tell you, humans don't just talk about our pain to fix it, we do it to share how we're feeling and find connection with others through those feelings.
Because you and I may live completely different lives with almost nothing in common, but we've all felt lonely, or sad, or frustrated, and connecting through that shared experience is part of the natural grieving process.

It's like crying, or laughing, we don't do either one to "solve" something, we do it because we're human, and that's how we express overwhelming emotion.☺️

@Runawaycuddles Fair enough. You are looking to release and I cant fault you for that. My instinct is protection and planning , what the next step is in a shitty situation, but you arent looking for that.

So instead let me say, "Yes loneliness sucks balls. In my experience it can feel like a black hole that sucks up all meaning and fun out of life and leaves one reaching out their hand to peoples backs asking them not to go. There was a day when that wasnt the case anymore, and I hope you get to that day too."

  • @tacpmurg Thank you, that was beautifully put and I really appreciate you sharing your experience and your kind wishes. It helps to know that other people can relate to this feeling 🫂
