Has anyone here done first aid/CPR??

Ok so bit of an odd one here. I’m new to cuddle therapy and it’s awesome to meet you all.

I’m just a mechanic by trade so this is all new to me.

Do you have to do a CPR course?? I tried to do one for my work and my anxiety was that but I just sat in the car before the class started. If anyone has any advice or experience with CPR that would be great.

    I am actually a Red Cross instructor and teach CPR on a regular basis. It is normal to have some nerves before your first class. You will be learning to save a life, that a lot of pressure! The courses are set up to build skills a little at a time, then put it all together with breaths and compression sets. There should be ample time for you to get comfortable with both components by practicing on the manikins. You just need to show competency to pass the course, the hope is that you leave confident with the knowledge that you can recognize a cardiac event and intervene. I'm happy to answer any questions you still have and wish you the best next time you attend a course!!

    If you choose to, which can be a wise and compassionate choice in life, there is no need for mouth to mouth contact. In class you practice on dummies and in real life you can keep one of these close at hand...

    I've been certified in CPR since I was 12. They actually had us do it as part of our 7th grade science class, and I've kept it up since. It's been a part of my job requirements my whole professional career.
    It's actually become much easier over the years, and as Sunset Snuggles pointed out right above, with the mouthpieces used now, there's not even any mouth-to-mouth contact. And if you have a quality instructor, they'll help you with any anxiety you're feeling and walk you right through the process until you're totally comfortable. During my last certification class I was dealing with an injury and getting down on the floor was difficult, so I was able to do all my testing at desk level.
    It's one of those things. Once you jump in the water, you'll be fine.

    @Tysond - I am on the same page as @SunsetSnuggles about your question.

    Absolutely not required but I would encourage any and everyone to get CPR training as well as “Stop the Bleed” training. I have a friend who is a paramedic and provides training to the public through a local hospital.

    You never know when you may be the first person to come upon someone who was in a car accident, some other type of accident, or who was the victim of a violent crime. I carry a tourniquet and Israeli bandage on me everywhere I go and I have a fully stocked trauma kit in my vehicle.

    When seconds count, professional medical assistance is usually at least minutes away. I can help stop the bleeding and buy time until professionals arrive.

    Cuddling is such a heart-stopping activity. But seriously @Tysond, I am not buying what you are putting out there. I would if you had a simple post asking if anyone else had anxiety over CPR training as people are anxious over many things. But you conflated cuddling and CPR to seemingly get to the premise of mouth-to-mouth. This has the appearance of grooming behavior the way you presented it. MAYBE not your intention but it will raise red flags for many people.

    @TheFunCartel Always clocking the weird subtext, I noticed it too. You don't even need to do mouth-to-mouth for effective CPR a lot of the time. And while I am first aid certified, I've literally never had to utilize that skill while...cuddling??

    I've been certified since the mid 90's, was even an instructor for a while, and have seen many changes over the years. Though I happy to say I've never had to tend to serious injuries, plenty of minor one but nothing major

    @Tysond Knowing how to do CPR doesn’t require you to do CPR. Some people say it should, but if it’s not something you ever feel qualified to do, then let someone else who does do it. I’m a nanny and it’s optional for me to know, but my best friend is an ER nurse and he retrains me every year and keeps me aware of any changes so I’ll be confident in knowing what to do if any of “my” kids needs me. It’s a personal choice. ALWAYS only do what YOU feel comfortable doing!

    I don’t know what he wrote to get it removed. But if mouth to mouth during a cuddle is your only avenue to get this kinda contact, well that’s all kinds of problematic is all I can say

    i am CPR and first aid trained at work to be a first responder in case of emergencies.
    Cuddling does not require you to be but it's also a good idea as you never know where you might need the training.

    Used to be, for like 22 years – it was mandatory; I didn’t renew it after I left though. Only did life saving chest compressions a couple different patients – assisted respiratory many times though. With the smart dummies they use to train you these days it really makes you feel comfortable; even when you did compressions on a person in the healthcare setting with the equipment we had - it told you if you are not compliant with rate & depth. Good stuff to know – keep it up!

    The new standard by AHA for bystander CPR is push fast push hard. Make sure 911 is activated and start compressions. Even if you put 911 on speaker start compressions as soon as possible. I’ve been in EMS for 28 years and I’m a licensed paramedic. Early 911 and early compressions save lives. The 911 call taker will direct you if they time out that rescue breaths are needed.

    Definitely agree with @SleepySheep1 ....compressions are usually more important than mouth to mouth. I've only had to do CPR once in my life time. First aid....is a common occurrence

    I did CPR once in 1996. I had been trained. An older man had a heart attack while riding his bike in the neighborhood. I was driving home from work and saw a group of people standing around the man laying on the ground. I stopped to find out what was going on. He was very purple when I started. He had color back by the time the ambulance arrived but unfortunately he didn't make it. It was really sad.

    I completely understand how men would feel nervous to touch an unconscious woman in that general area, though. It's not a great situation to be in.

    But this "women are left to die due to lack of training" thing is mortifying.

    I've received CPR training, but never been in a situation to use it. Knowing how to perform it properly is a good skill to have...just in case.
