Anyone else with hyperhidrosis?

New cuddler here 🙂 I have pretty severe hyperhidrosis in my hands and feet all year round. I’ve noticed that when I’m cuddling it’s not so bad.

Yes, omg.. I thought I was the only one!

I always wear socks and carry a hand towel around.. During cuddles it's not as bad on hands but still moderate on feet so I wear socks...

  • @benwarno right! It feels like you’re literally the needle in the haystack when you have hyperhidrosis.

I don’t know if it’s the oxytocin, lowered heart rate or being in a relaxed state. It’s really a welcome side effect of being apart of this community 🙌🏽

You might be subconsciously anxious or wound up in your daily life more than you realize perhaps. I tend to be pretty warm and well, sweat a little more even when not consciously worried about something, but life will just be in high gear. Then I relax and nothing serious is going on particularly, and then it just stops.

Of course this is just me, so could be just being in a relaxed state from cuddling calms all the crazier aspects of our bodies!

  • The only thing that has worked for me is Carpe. I tested it with underarms and the same lotion for my back because I hate being sweaty at the airport after doing all that security and it helped me a lot. Get the Clean sport one. This helps me not feeling super sweaty at the gym as well. Hope this helps.

  • Yes, it sucks. Though thankfully I do not get it while cuddling. I have also gotten a prescription medication that seems to help.

  • If I'm nervous or cold my palms and feet get super clammy

  • AsiaCares: I was just talking to someone who had some sort of mild procedure that helped him w/ that. The palms of his hands used to get very sweaty, but now it's in more normal places. He didn't go into much detail or mention the name of the procedure - sorry I couldn't be more helpful!

Was the procedure a sympathectomy? I also suffer from hyperhydrosis in my hands and feet my entire life and was considering undergoing this surgery.
It used to be so embarrassing when I was dating and my partner went to grab my hand and I would immediately shamefully warn him/her about my sweaty palms. They would usually change their minds lol.
If I wear sandals or any shoes without socks, I have to usually line them with a "non-sweaty" material.
Thankfully, for some odd reason my excessive sweating has gotten better over the years but it can still get pretty bad especially when I am nervous or it is hot outside (I am in AZ so that's like 98% of the year).
I also heard that Botox injections are an effective treatment for this.
Good luck to all my co-hyperhydrosis people! I hope you find a way to lessen the sweats. They suck..

  • Oh woah I just remembered my hyperhydrosis would hit after showering before a cuddle. I had been prescribed Robinul and somehow forgot that doesn’t happen anymore.

  • I have hyperhidrosis secondary to heart issues (likely POTS, diagnosis still in progress). I'm extremely heat and exertion intolerant right now, so I start sweating profusely if I even think about standing up. Once I'm overheated from standing, it can take quite awhile for my system to claim tf down, even with my medications.

For cuddling, as long as I don't overheat in advance, I usually do ok because I'm laying or sitting down, so not doing jackrabbit cardio. I almost always wear socks to cuddle more because I have endothermic feet and don't want to shock people 😅 I'll tend to dress in light, breathable layers and always have the fan/AC on - even in winter. It's MUCH easier to snuggle up under blankets than it is for me to try to cool down once my symptoms flare. Cooling towels are also a godsend, both for cooling and for drying off - I always carry at least one.

I thankfully don't get excessive sweating of hands/feet, but more my head/scalp and just kinda generally all over. It's part of the reason I tend to wear capris or leggings instead of shorts for cuddling, because I hate feeling all sticky. Still, my cuddle partners have always been exceedingly understanding and kind. Personally, I believe sweat is natural and just part of having a human body 🤷🏻‍♀️ there's far worse sensory things that can go on for me during a cuddle than if my partner or I are damp lol.

Just be up front with your cuddle partner so they can decide their tolerance level themselves. And try to extend yourself the same grace you extend to others - if you wouldn't be bothered by your cuddle partner being clammy, but clean, then try not to get down on your own body doing it's human thing.
