This Announcement Has Me Seriously Excited (Spoilers)

Hey everyone!

I just saw the teaser/trailer, and I cannot contain my excitement:

Capcom is officially remaking Resident Evil: Code Veronica in 2027! 😱😃😃

I’ve been waiting for this since the RE3 remake, and while I loved the RE4 remake, I’ve always felt Code Veronica deserved the spotlight first. It’s such a classic, and the thought of experiencing it with modern visuals and gameplay updates… I’m thrilled!

I’ve been holding off on getting a PS5, but this announcement might just push me to finally grab one. I’m also planning to get RE: Requiem eventually, but right now, my hype for Code Veronica is through the roof.

Who else is as hyped as I am? Any guesses on what changes or improvements we might see in the remake? I’m crossing my fingers for some surprises while keeping the core story intact.

Let's hope it's given as much time and care as RE 4 remake rather than the shortened RE 3 remake (which I still enjoyed don't get me wrong, it's just too short). When I saw that trailer I got chills and felt a tear of joy and excitement welling up.

  • There were some fantastic reveals today, and this one I absolutely did NOT see coming. Very excited!!

  • I don't really get remakes, at least from the customer side. I've already played Code Veronica.

  • Wow that's cool.

  • @JasonCuddles for folks who have already played it, sure. But for a younger generation who may not have easy access to the software (or hardware, the original being a Dreamcast game!), remakes are a convenient way for a new generation to play an old game with quality of life improvements, and for devs/pubs to get more money for an existing product.

While I would always prefer an exciting new title, a strong remake can be awesome as well.

(As a fan of Japanese RPGs, remakes also come with the added boon of first official localization ... Like the entire Romancing SaGa trilogy, Front Mission 2, LIVE A LIVE, Trials of Mana ... None of those would've made it to North America in the 90s but thanks to remakes, they did come here).

  • @JasonCuddles remakes often add new elements to gameplay.

  • @SafeWarmPlzKthx not only that but making a remake doesn't really hinder a studio a whole lot. Way fewer resources used than a game from scratch.

  • @wilderdude I suppose maybe there are new elements, but having new elements in a new game sounds better to me. Like darkest dungeon 2 was a bit of a change up from the first.

  • This is cool. I played it briefly on someone elses Dreamcast but I don't remember much at all.

More hyped about the Wolf Among Us sequel + remaster though

  • I will say I enjoyed all 4 RE remakes more than the last "newer" games such as 5, 6, 7, and 8 (haven't played requiem yet). I guess I just feel more attached to Leon, Claire, and Jill's stories than to Ethan's or others. It might also be a nostalgia thing. Though I've played and beaten all these games (original and remakes) besides the latest new one, I find myself really enjoying how the remakes modernized the controls and graphics, though I would often point out to myself or others playing it whenever I noticed a difference or if something was cut out from the original or added on. I usually enjoy remakes of games I'm familiar with in general. Seeing how dated code veronica looks these days and wondering why 4 got a remake first when it doesn't look quite as old is part of me feeling relief that they didn't skip over it and are giving it some love. And yes it can bring new people to it - they may go back and play the original to see where it came from. I have Code Veronica X on PS2, the remastered PS3 version, and I ended up buying it on the ps4 since I didn't want the hassle of using the ps2 game disc. I never did play it on dreamcast though.

@SafeWarmPlzKthx I have been wanting to play the Trials of Mana Remake for some time, but I'm waiting until I see it on sale. For now I'll have to enjoy Legend of Mana, Secret of Mana Remake, and Visions of Mana. The latter two being ones I haven't beaten yet.

  • Re4 was the first of the games where I was like...eh...I don't know. One of the things I really liked about re2 was that you wanted to save ammo and avoid fights if you could. RE4 you effectively had unlimited ammo and I think even encouraged to kill everything that moved.

The problem with RE turning into "kill everything that moves" is that if I want to do that I can load up UT2004 and it does that so much better. RE just turns into a crappy unreal tournament.

I'll admit to enjoying either playing RE2 rookie mode with the infinite weapons already in the storage box or using the in game cheat to make all my weapons unlimited on normal mode, so I was already destroying every enemy I came across 😂. And in code veronica X I certainly took advantage of the knife saving me a ton of ammo while being very effective for zombies (if you aim down at a certain angle) in that specific game.

One that really pushed my patience was RE3 remake on the hardest difficulty (Inferno) against the final boss fight. Even with the best unlimited weapons, or using finite weapons with ammo in stock and a ton of healing items, the sheer precision needed to dodge a barrage of attacks or else risk dying in 3 seconds was frustrating. I think it took me 45 minutes or more on that boss fight alone and I lost track of how many times I had to retry it. Still finally was glad when I did it and got the trophy.

  • Bumping this thread to say holy crap y'all watch Nintendo Direct today? Tons of great stuff. But the big one is they're doing a from-the-ground-up Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake and they've claimed 2026 release window. That's just wild.

For me though, I never got around to the Xenoblade trilogy, so I might finally do that on Switch 2.

  • Definitely considering saving for a Switch solely for OoT.
