Anyone work on a Cruise ship?

In less than 60 days I will be joining the crew of the Norwegian Cruise line!! and name of the Ship is called pride of America. I am truly excited and nervous at the same time it won't be a walk in the park I'll be working 7 days a week 10 to 12 hour days however I will be based in Hawaii and will sailing all the islands and I'm granted free access explore the Islands on my personal time during my a employement. This will be a life changing experience!

Has anyone Worked in Any cruise line
can you share the good the bad and the ugly?

    My uncle used to work on a cruise ship as a bartender. I hear it’s fun but yeah you barely get any sleep. Hopefully you have a good experience.

    One of my besties worked for years on another cruise line.

             Best tips are:

    Protect your peace.

    Take a hobby with you: reading, video games, board games.

    It's deceptively easy to spend your money.

    Developing a routine will help you keep your sanity.

    Keep your mind open and make new friends from around the world.

    Be super respectful to yourself, others and of course the islands 🏝️ cultures, traditions and knowledge of water/land laws.

    I've never been on a cruise ship, but working on one out of Hawaii does sound like a really exciting opportunity, even if it ends up being only for a brief period of time. Have fun and be safe!

    There is a lot of good a lot of bad and a lot of ugly when working on a cruise ship. The above advice that you've received I agree with. Definitely focus as much as you can on the good parts and try to mitigate the bad and the ugly.
    Don't get burnt out from the ridiculous hours that they work you.

    Congratulations.

    I did volunteer work for a seafarers house years ago. Cell phone weren't prevelant back then and the cruise workers came in droves when the shipped docked in Fort Lauderdale, FL to make phone calls to their loved ones back home in Asia and Europe.

    I never worked on one myself (I preferred hotels on land 😅), but a lot of my college friends performed on cruises during the summer. Not to scare you, but they did NOT have good reviews or experiences. Same with Disney, which crushed a childhood dream of mine a bit. Both had terrible working conditions, too low of pay for the amount of work done, abusive supervisory staff, and too little support with problematic passengers/guests.

    Granted, this was 13-17 years ago so working conditions may have improved. But I recommend seeking out past/current employee boards and groups to get a more accurate info from people who have experienced that particular cruise line from behind the scenes rather than as passengers. That way at least you can go in prepared for any known pitfalls.

    I had a friend who was a musician on a cruise ship. He was lucky and became friends with another musician and they wrote songs together. FYI, they became bf/gf and that didn't end well. Be careful in that area. I would hate to be stuck on a ship with my ex!

    Also hopefully it’s a big ship. I went on a casino cruise some time ago and because the ship was smaller I got sea sick.

    I'm currently looking for jobs and have been finding myself getting distracted and looking at EVERYTHING. Cruise ships were totally on that list as well. Honestly, kind of still looking into those. I hope it goes well for you! Come back with results when you get them!
