If you could officially cancel any holiday that you wanted forever, what holiday would it be?
Pretty sure people are feeling Valentine's day right about now. Lol
Thanksgiving; most dont celebrate it for the right reasons, and far too many animals die for a very dumb tradition. The turkey used to be a very sacred and beautiful bird, and now it is mocked, and consumed.
@Morpheus There are several holidays I skip participating in (Valentine's Day, Presiden't Day, Halloween), but I would not cancel them. Why rain on someone else's parade by canceling a holiday that brings enjoyment, meaning, or comfort to them just because I don't like it? Seems kind of autocratic; the age-old human tyrannical impulse to impose one's will on others. The polar opposite of empathy.
@Brandi, As an enthusiastic omnivore, I eat turkeys and other fowl all year long, but I don't mock them. Not that they'd know. But I wouldn't force the demise of the holiday because "most don't celebrate it for the right reasons," any more than I'd do that to Memorial Day [ which for most people is about retail sales and picnics, not honoring the memory and sacrifice of those who died in military service] or Labor Day [now about the end of summer, back-to-school, and radio countdowns rather than honoring the achievements of American workers]. Better to raise my voice to remind folks about what the holidays are intended to be for, than to wish their cancellation because we feel many aren't doing it right. IMHO
Not trying to start an argument, BTW, just taking a contrarian view of the question. Rather than shutting down other people's celebrations, maybe we should just add a holiday for cuddling! ;-)

@SjSpooner it was unceremoniously uprooted during the feats of strength. A little too much residual anger left over from the airing of grievances I suppose
Man, speaking of Thanksgiving I grew up in a religion where that was literally the only holiday we were allowed to celebrate because it was pure family togetherness. Now it's been completely ruined by black Friday retailers pushing it back more and more. So last I checked black Friday now starts at 4pm on Thanksgiving Thursday? I hate it. So I boycott it not that little ol me can make a difference but seriously if I could make it a law I would protect my family day(Thanksgiving) by banning all retailers from having black Friday before midnight. Boom! Take that greedy retailers! Lol

I guess I don't know my Festivus traditions very well. ;-)
