Are there any animals you connect with or would identify as being a spirit animal?

Here are some of the meanings of common animals people identify with. They can also be used as interpretation as animals you see in dreams or as guides.

You don't have to read all of the links or anything. But I thought it would be fun to list some of the interesting things I have found. If you see anything that looks interesting, feel free to look. :)

Some animals that I personally identify with are the platypus, any weird animal, owls, falcons, ravens, cats, wolves, foxes, doves, hedgehogs, armadillos, porcupines, pangolins, and echidnas. :)

How about you guys? What are some animals you identify with? I am curious to know.

Most people seem to like dogs more than any other animal. I think that's because they give unconditional affection. I never grew up with animals and never had any pets until I was an adult. But I always gravitated toward cats. I like that they are independent and only come to you when they want to. If a cat comes to you, you know you've earned its affection. I also find cats very calming. I identify with cats more than any other animal. As for non-domestic animals, I've liked hedgehogs ever since wild ones visited our garden when I was little.

@UKGuy I am also a big fan of cats. I own six cats (somehow I have become the crazy cat lady lol). They are all rescues and I love them all. Their names are Boots, Cinnamon, Pancake, Cupcake, Powder, and Toffee. I forgot about hedgehogs but I actually like them a lot to, along with armadillos, porcupines, pangolins, and echidnas. :)

  • For pets, I prefer cats. For animals in general, bats are so adorable. As are firefoxes/red pandas.

@BrianL I've owned cats all of my life. I am now the owner of six kitties, all rescues. :) Bats are really cute and so are foxes and red pandas. :) I know that they are starting to breed foxes in a special way and make domestic foxes which can be adopted as pets. It's becoming pretty common in Russia and certain parts of Europe to own a domestic fox.

I don't know them at all and I wouldn't consider them my favourite animal, but racoons are freakin adorable

@JasonCuddles I agree! Raccoons are very cute. And they are smart too!

You add a picture from the toolbar above.

If you look at the toolbar above the chat window you will see a line like B I...the numbers list 123, paragraph, so on. There is a picture image with a sun and mountains after the smiley face. You put the image url link in the box after clicking the mountain and sun image. :)

  • @MoonlightSonata Yeah, foxes are cute, but Firefox is another name for a Red Panda. So the Firefox web browser is named after the cuties. lol A fox pet would be cool though.

  • [Deleted User]MoonlightSonata (deleted user)

@BrianL Oh I didn't know that. That is good to know. Red pandas are really cute too. :)

@JasonCuddles You are very welcome. I am happy that I could help. :)

That is a cute picture of a raccoon that you shared, by the way. XD

  • It's hard to find one that isn't cute

  • [Deleted User]MoonlightSonata (deleted user)

@JasonCuddles There are a lot of funny raccoon pictures too.

    Like this one for example.

  • [Deleted User]MoonlightSonata (deleted user)

@JasonCuddles I am happy that you approve. XD

  • I like dog

  • [Deleted User]Bles (deleted user)

I like rabbits. They're gentle yet cautious. Cooperative yet reserved. When you grow their trust you know you've earned their respect.

  • I like chickens. Eggs and chicken sandwiches.

I'm a dog person all the way!!! But I have always been a huge fan of cheetas. They are gorgeous felines, maybe I was one in my past life 🔥

  • Depends on how we're defining things. Pets-wise, I'm definitely into cats, however I'm also fond of wolves, falcons, owls, and if we're getting into the fantasy realm, dragons.

I refrain from anthropomorphizing lesser animals, and the idea of a spirit/power anything is extremely distasteful to me. I don’t keep pets because I feel that tying a creature’s existence to my own is inherently cruel.

With all that said, I do enjoy dolphins a good amount. Mainly because they’re compelling evidence for sentience being the main catalyst behind cruelty and suffering.

Cats or geckos for real, dragons or Warcraft style hypogryphs for fantasy. Pseudodragons from D&D also being in there somewhere with the big ones.

  • @hogboblin - cats don't see themselves as being tied to our existence, they see us as being tied to their existence.

  • “In ancient times cats were worshiped as gods; they have not forgotten this.”

    ― Terry Pratchett

  • @hogboblin I agree. It is sheer hubris to think animals would even want to be associated with us.

I don't like sharing my living space with other creatures. Nonetheless, I seem to spend a lot of time around ants, roaches, beetles, centipedes, spiders, etc. Apparently they want to be associated with me, never mind my feelings on the matter.

The spiders are pretty okay, I guess. If I were to pick a favorite nonhuman species, it'd probably be them.
