Has anyone heard of moviepass? apparently it’s 9.99 a month and you can see one movie a day at participating theaters and it seems that all in my area are participating theaters. If you’re an avid movie goer and this is legit, it’s a killer deal. I signed up, I hope it’s legit cause I would say we go to the movies 3 times a month and this would save us a lot of cash.

    It’s legit although I haven’t tried it myself. They also have a $7.99 membership that allows you to watch 3 movies a month instead of one everyday and I might just sign up for that one to try it out.
    Some people say it’s a little glitchy because to redeem your ticket you have to be within 100 yards of the theater and there have been reports of people not being able to sign in to get the ticket or it taking 15 to 20 minutes which can be problematic specially with reserved seating.

    They got the same thing in the UK unlimited films for a set payment a month.

    Legit, but not sustainable in present form. They are burning tons of cash.

    sounds like cuddlers who do movie cuddles , two person memberships, could bring cuddle costs down on public cuddles...

    They probably make most of their money from snacks and drink sales anyway.

    I agree that they must be burning a lot of cash but also agree with a lot of their money comes from food sales. The upsell on that stuff is crazy.

    I dont think there are any deals in place for food/drink. Even so, if the average user goes to two movies a month, the cost to moviepass is around $32, and the pass cost ten. So they need to make up $22 in revenue just to break even. Good luck!

    Anyway, for those who have it, enjoy it while you can. Its a great deal for the consumer.

    @spoonie I get what you’re saying now. I assumed that there was a contract or something between movie pass and the theaters. I figured the appeal was to get people in and have them spend money on food. I did some math and came up with around a $10k a month increase in profits for each movie theater. If however there is no contract and it’s all on moviepass, they must be banking on people paying the monthly fee and either not going to the movies or only going to one a month.

    I am pretty sure there is a special wholesale deal to the movjepasd company and that's why they are able to do it. Plus most people prob don't go to enough movies on a long term basis and likely will be some people who go months without it but continue to pay the fee . And I'm not sure what the restrictions are, but a lot of the time with special promotions and passes you can't see a new release and sometimes can't use them on certain days or times

    I’ve been looking into getting a moviepass for a while now... I think it’s great for cuddlers.

    I was interested in the financial side of things (especially because our small, independent downtown theaters accept moviepass, and I didn’t want it to hurt them!), and there are some interesting articles.

    They pay the theater full price for the ticket. The company is burning a lot of money right now, but they are hoping that both theaters and the production companies will see that they are bringing more people into the theaters, and are hoping to make deals with both sides of the business. Which isn’t too different from what Netflix did when it started.

    Interesting stuff.

    @Spoonie - your logic is flawed. Many of the people who get the moviepass would not go at all if they did not have the pass, or would not go as often, or would go to some other theater chain.

    Ukguy, explain why my logic was flawed. Your post above does nothing to prove me wrong. Explain in terms of how movie pass makes a profit in the current scenario. Not with suppositions. Thanks.

    @Mike403 I'd like to think I'm fun! Just a fun scaredy cat ;) Thrillers are fine too but all out horrors would be a horror to watch with me

    I grew up on the old school horror flicks with all the gratuitous nudity and gore having been a child of the 80s lol.

    I finally received my moviepass card in the mail. The theater I go to is a dine in theater with recliners. The tickets were $14.99 and my movie pass card covered it. I’m already ahead of the game with just one movie considering the card is $9.99 a month. I was also able to use it with my stubbs reward card at the theater. I’m totally sold on this, I just hope it stays in business.

    @stellarosass It works with a bunch of different theaters. In my town (Ann Arbor) it even works with the fancy independent/non-profit theaters in our downtown!
