Great article about the need for touch! ("Are You Touch-Starved?")

edited March 2013 in Root
It's funny how people seem to just assume those of us passionate about touch never consider boundaries!

  • The first article is rather heteronormative. The second article is way better, but still has some problems, e.g. assumes all porn is the same, but there is alternative porn, folks!
  • Everyone has a perspective. If we sit and criticize every perspective that isn't 100% complete, we'll never actually make progress, because that's details over content. I'm all for details and sensitivity, but at the same time, someone will ALWAYS be offended, so let's give people the grace and love enough to focus on their heart in issues, rather than unproductively tearing them to pieces...

I don't see how people could be torn into pieces by a criticism of an article. Everyone is free to focus on what they like. I believe that being critical is helping people to make progress, to widen their horizons. Criticisms help people to learn from their mistakes. Details are part of content. So, my generalization, if I understand you right, you would like that when people are offended, they would sit silent because they are disturbing someone to focus on their preferred issues. Oh, how progressive is that! If we follow that rule, we should tell all minorities and otherwise underprivileged people to shut up.
P.S. Articles about cuddling in general is a good thing :)
  • Criticism only tears down, it never builds up. Yes, it can (and often should be) a part of the process, but it alone will do more harm than good. We are human beings, not robots, and we function a bit differently than simply being able to be disassembled and critiqued.
  • Great article - thanks for sharing that and getting the alternative viewpoint out there.
