Three of my favorites are from Winston Churchill, who was a master of the quick comeback.
At a dinner party, he and Lady Astor, who were bitter political enemies, were seated next to each other. At one point, she said "Winston, if you were my husband, I'd put poison in your tea." He replied "Nancy, if you were my wife, I'd drink it.
George Bernard Shaw, who was another political enemy once offered two tickets to the opening night of his new play, and concluded his offer with "Bring a friend, if you have one." Winston replied "I'm sorry, but I'm busy that night, but I'll be glad to come on the second night, if there is one."
Somebody once berated him for having ended a sentence with a preposition, in a recent speech. Winston wagged a finger in the man's face, and said "That is something up with which I will not put."

@Spud424 Love that! The latest thing I wonder is if those wheeled sprinkler systems I see in the fields around here just spray water, or do they also spray fertilizer or pesticide? And do they roll on their own? I never see them moving, and don't see an engine on them. Dying to know! 🥴
@MissAdventurous I think of the meaning in your last quote often and could not agree more. Years ago I read that if a person had $77,000 in assets they were financially in the top 10% in the world.
