Fake profiles created to monitoring you

Have you ever had the suspicious that some of the new profiles are faked?, just to monitoring the reaction of the population here in CC.
The characteristics are that those are new, only have one or two photos and a very short or null description in the "about me".
And sometimes after a while those just disappears.

  • What would be the point?

I do notice that as I'm going through potential cuddlers' profiles that a majority of them either say nothing or have a description that's one sentence and tells nothing about themselves. Do they really expect to get a response?

  • I think its just new people trying to see what its about. If I remember right in order to see much of anything the site has you have to be a user, otherwise you just get the home page which tells you what the site is and rules. So chances are it's just curiosity to get a vibe of what is actually here.

  • @Babichev Interesting, how is those were potential cuddle partners in the first place and then you've realized those were hollow users.

That's the point, the fisher is looking for reactions or maybe a developer wants to get statistics in some tests.

This is a human behavior lab.

    Who really knows?
But you had noticed it and you have had your own personal reaction.
Have you tried to contact them once? ?
    Thanks for sharing!

  • @laylanie yeah some of them, definitively.

  • @garrablanca - I've not bothered contacting anyone with a blank or one sentence description on their profile. However, some have contacted me. They are usually pretty boring and it doesn't go very far.

  • If they want to monitor you, you gave the website permission to look at all of your posts and messages when you signed up. They don't need to create a fake profile to do so. Creating fake profiles would also just exacerbate common issues here, mostly that a lot of users stop logging on after awhile so people are messaging an inbox no one is seeing.

    Interesting idea, though.

  • Oh @Babichev then they've had contacted you, mmmh then those are not fake profiles, only shy and boring people.
That's sad, why they contacted you and then become boring?, that's weird and sad!

  • @garrablanca , I don't really follow what you mean by "just to monitoring the reaction of the population here in CC." Who would you think would do this and exactly what do you think they would be "monitoring"?

  • @Babichev why is so complicated?
Could be for any reason, the thing is that there's some profiles that looks weird.
I'm throwing this idea to see what others think about it, basically.
And then a few react to my post, in which I can also see some reactions, and detect a visitors increment of my profile.
Anyone can create a fake profile to see how many people try to contact that 'person', why? I don't know... Just for fun, they were boring, want to know if they should build another site like this one, who knows?
The idea of monitoring is that they can watch after whatever they are interested.

I think OP is referring to potential monitoring from external sources. We have a few test accounts but they have always included the word 'test' in the username.

We monitor Pro accounts like yours but only standard accounts when investigating a report or for exceptional circumstances. It would be a colossal waste of time otherwise.

    @garrablanca

Funny you say that, an active member here has recently created a website that tries to imitate this one in every way. I won't bother going into more detail. Also, profiles could be created to try and gather data. @respectful demonstrated the type of useful data that can be gathered with his own research projects here. So generally yes, your theory is plausible.

  • @Mark I think I came across that other website you mention by accident. Funny thing is, most of the profiles seem pretty fake and use pics grabbed from the internet. Even the profile of one of the supposed moderators was grabbed from a photo stock website. So, I don’t think you have much to worry about. I give that website 2 weeks. :)
