A national treasure who will hopefully be remembered as highly as some of the dead white authors. A Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winner who elevated marginalized figures and gave them a voice.

@BillBean Obviously you are not aware of the literary canon that I was referring to. I gave an apt description of who was in it. A great example if you peruse a college catalog is how American Literature is listed while other courses given are African American Literature or Hispanic Literarure as if it is not inclusive in American literature. Her works were very much about race yet were primarily taught in African-American literature classes.
