Mutual connection

So we have fifty ways to chat, but not many to meet. I am on here and they say start a conversation. Catch 22 is that is you have problem starting conversations. That can be that online on the real. The professional route is nice, but would like a mutual meet. What are some ways people find a mutual connection online with people.

A good way is to see if you have the same interest or share something in common with another person. For instance, I see you are an IT contractor in North Carolina. A few years ago I was working at AT&T and they opened a new facility in Hickory not too far from you. I spent 3 months there ramping up the new facility.

I remember the locals teaching me, "It ain't Hickory, its pronounced Hikry". I really enjoyed that area, except for a stalker I developed there. I had to break up with her twice and we weren't even dating. Was that just her, or are they a little nuttier in NC?

I couple of days ago someone posted a similar thread about openers and I responded with a screenshot I took that day of my outbox with some examples of how I open with my messages to try to connect with people. You can view it by clicking here.

  • It is very open in Charlotte even though I have had one crazy ex. Pretty calm for the most part. Hickory is more rural so they may see you and see babies. I have to update my profile but thanks. Stole some one else post to kind of add to my point.
"We are the most disconnected and connected society at the same time. Connected in technology, but disconnected when it comes to treating each other as feeling human beings."

  • Thanks for the examples DonLong. Will try to reach out to some people.

Mutual connection really comes down to time and compatibility. It takes a combination of different communication media , effort and time to begin with to have an idea of how you feel interacting with a person. Good intros, verbal or text conversations, etc.are just some of the things that let you know you're clicking with another person. Shared interests, hobbies, social language of self expression are other factors that may help or hinder that connection. Some people are fluid talkers others aren't. Some people feel driven to explain and express everything they feel. Others prefer to be quiet and more cautious. I think it's just a matter of hanging outside of your head space and letting the energy build naturally. Whatever form it takes.

  • Thanks but just saying we more one on one opportunities previously. I date myself but likes and text don't always convey true feelings. More an observation. You are who we are, but have to adapt to a new medium.

  • You're on the right path. You pack lots of info into your short concise sentences. Your use of the word "hickory" made me howl. I can see you getting cuddles. Just hang in there.

  • Oh, I didn't realize Hickory is an actual place. I thought you meant hickish. lol

  • Sure is @PeopleLikeUs Hickory is about an hour outside of Charlotte where I flew into and the OP is from. They had some hicks who felt offended by me mispronouncing their city. But didn't seem to be more hicks then anywhere else I have been.

I was living in Utah at the time, and our hicks have multiple wives and live in houses that only have 3 walls. They intentionally don't complete their houses because as long as its "under construction" you don't have to pay property tax.

You can think of the need to be cuddled as being on a spectrum, and everyone's reasoning about why is different. I found that when I changed my profile opener to include why I wanted to be cuddled it increased my traffic. I made that change from advice in this forum.

  • Thanks for the advice

Hmm, I indicated my age as "100" because I think there is too much ageism in the world. Do you suppose that's scaring people off?

  • No @Bumper it's funny and people will just click on it to see what sort of a quirky fellow you are. That's what I just did.

@PeopleLikeUs I like that idea, thanks.

  • Love the comments have been on for a month now. Doing a lot forum reading, it is entertaining. Get the feeling its a professional or nothing. Getting my head around what is expected. Even with going to clubs still would like that one on one. Thanks for all the feed back though
