Topic discussion is vitally important

edited September 2020 in General

Love or hate the person, topic discussion is even more vitally important than it used to be just because we're in these pandemic times. We can't talk in person as much, and generally drama is worse in text than in person. It's why I mostly stopped adding friends on Fartbook (where 90% of drama is), have gone mostly anonymous online (since I've been stalked and harassed), and for related reasons don't even state where I work anywhere unless I agree that someone needs to know. But I digress.

Last night and this morning my cat was purring non-stop, and it felt so comforting and relaxing for some reason; the constant hum and whir of a fuzzy animal that just wants to be one with a bed spread in the warm nook of another living thing is very stabilizing, and for whatever reason tamps down a lot of the cacophony in my head. I suppose drugs would do the same but they've been erratic for me. A significant other of course can do the same but have proven even more erratic for me XD

Anyway, I wanted to post about the cat whirring this morning because it was just how I felt, that was relatable here, a raw positive to the raw negative I felt last night, but was afraid of "posting too much" or "not being the right person" or "not doing it at the right time", and nobody should have to feel that if they're not being obsessive or malicious. Maybe some just think there's too much negativity in the threads here, or cringe at certain usernames... I don't know, but I can't change others' tolerances, just adjust my own and pray for others'. Discussion is what separates us from animals, and thoughts being expressed relieves pressure and helps align and progress minds, as well as gives an indication of where a person or community is at, for consideration. Yes people sometimes say ridiculous malicious things, but at least we know where their mind is at.

I err on the side of information, the benefit of the doubt towards the poster simply needing information whether they realize it or not, and anything they learn or connect makes the post valuable. I don't see a lot of new posts relatively so I hope people aren't feeling afraid to post as I did. There's no social order of right to post, no gatekeeper of topics or opinion, only the mods who decide who can or can't post, and I appreciate their desire for expression over carving out just narrow kinds or topics of expression like some other forums following popular blog culture, and people shouldn't be afraid to post about relevant topics or meaningful feelings.

My head is not clear but this is the gist of how I feel, with cats and posts. Thanks for coming to my cat whirring Ted Talk. I probably should just forget the whole forum as a feelings board for this site's subject, and go do outdoor things, but my mind is here now and I don't want anyone to feel restricted to post relevant and useful things here, good or bad. I'll edit this whole thing out if it explodes into negativity. Silly my cynicism again. If the post is ignored it'll just go away.

  • I'd cuddle with this bunny.

  • @Mike403 snakes are actually very relaxing and feel nice when they crawl on you .

  • Boa constrictors are very keen on cuddling.

  • I think dogs are more cuddly but I have three cats and they all cuddle me in different ways. Dogs can be too hyper sometimes and of course some slobber or whip their tail excitedly while they cuddle. My mom used to breed shih tzus (which are one of the most widely known cuddle dogs) and I loved spending time with them , but when I cuddle cats, it just seems more special. The fact that a dog is like a baby and a cat is like a roommate, makes it so that a dog has to always be there near you no matter what but when a cat decidedly chooses to come sit in your lap and purr away just seems so much more meaningful. 😻😻😻

  • @Sheena123 - I've been working from home since March and my cat always begs for attention.

  • @davebutton thanks for sharing your thoughts and feelings. I know there have been some tenuous interactions in other threads and I hope that you feel safe and free to share what is on your mind.

You seem to understand the pain of being invalidated/unheard and you wish for others to not feel or experience that. I think it is an admirable and noble idea that you have expressed.

I’m more of a cat person than a dog person, but dogs on the whole are generally more cuddly and affectionate. There is something satisfying about a cat slowly opening up to you. It is a much more gradual process than when interacting with your average dog.

The statement that we are separate from animals is a curious one. I’ve been pondering lately as humans are we more similar or different to our animal counterparts? We certainly are more intelligent and civilized than other species, but I think we are remiss if we fail to acknowledge the carnal aspects of our humanity.
