New changes to mobile website

edited October 2020 in General

Renamed topic so it could be merged into a general feedback thread. [/Mark]

I noticed on the message page (where you send/reply to a user), the header no longer has the CuddleComfort logo homepage link, and just a Back (<) button link and then the cuddler's name and some other things with no link to go to the homepage or to the cuddler's profile.

The Back button is great if you just came from the cuddler's profile, but not from most other places, like an email notification of a new message which has no previous page to go back to (because it's in the email app's browser subwindow or opens a new tab)... and with no homepage link or the user's profile link, you're basically stuck. I also noticed upon long-press of the Back button that it would show "about#blocked" which makes no sense to me and does nothing when clicked anyway.

Please add back the homepage logo link, and make the user profile name/image a clickable link to go to their profile.

I work with websites and I know that the easier a website is to use, the more usage and enjoyment people will get out of it. The more unintuitive and difficult it is (especially if it traps people or adds steps that shouldn't be necessary), the more annoyed they'll be and less likely to use it.

Please anyone if you have this issue, reply here with your thoughts. I'm not seeing a good way to report site issues that show user agreement or feedback or disagreement.

Thanks.

PS: The site has previously been astonishingly easy to use compared to similar sites. I applaud the website developers for putting much care into usability, and I hope the message page can return to being as easy as the rest of the site.

  • Yeah. Now I can’t seem to log off. What’s going on?

  • [Deleted User]socalcuddler (deleted user)

I actually like the new header, a lot easier to use and have not had any issues.

  • @davebutton I have absoulutely no issue with teh new header...site is still super easy to use......and why do you need the logo so much?

@mickg , I'm able to long off....no issues here with that....

  • This is how my page looks all of a sudden. The menu tab is gone so I can’t access the log off feature.

  • Click your profile pic at the top right.
    Click settings.
Log out is one of the options.

On mine it's now within the ••• at the bottom of the page.

edit: and the other stuff is all at the bottom of the page after clicking on "home/🏠" icon.

I like the new header, but that's just me.

  • I was confused that the menu list has gone. ☹️

  • How do you pull up cuddlers near you.

  • edited October 2020

Oh, I just noticed most of the header links are at the bottom of the page as new buttons... like an iPhone... OK, I don't see the point in that... and it wasn't very noticeable... and now the site features I use are split between the top and bottom of the screen now... but OK... not sure I consider this an improvement yet...

  • @dlw321 It's the one that looks like a magnifying glass 🔍. If not showing in your home row of icons at the bottom of your screen, you'll find it under the ••• button down there instead.

  • The new mobile web version is quite good. While viewing a message try sliding from the left. The left hand menu slides into view and has shortcuts to everything. Its very nice.

  • Heres what it looks like when you slide the left menu

Merged your topic into this one. [/Mark]

Anyone else noticed the new way CC is set up now? I love it! It’s easier to edit your profile and search for cuddlers now. :)

  • @Melancholy ~ Cool tip!
Also, don't forget to charge your phone 😉

  • Seems like a few menus changed? I don't notice much difference honestly. Maybe the PC version is different?

  • [Deleted User]CuddleMeLater (deleted user)

As far as I can tell there's no real difference. I have a dark theme now, and on mobile there used to be a redundant menu at the top that is now gone. Other than that it's virtually identical.

  • It took me a while to find the log out!! It’s oddly buried in the “settings” :/ It really should be more accessible like in the old platform!

  • I don’t notice to much of a difference, besides the dark themed , I don’t mind it , it does hurt my eyes a little bit , I feel like it should be an option to have the dark theme or not .

@davebutton The best way to report issues or concerns w/website issues is to message @mark directly.

  • I really don't know why everybody is upset with the changes. I don't find them hard to use.....

Thanks for the feedback everyone. It will be deeply considered.

Usability is really important but also worth recognising that any usability change can initially feel negative for the simple fact it's a change and goes against the already ingrained expectations you have from previous usage.

Nothing is set in stone. We are just evolving the website closer to an app feel ahead of our upcoming PWA app. Part of that is having site navigation focused in bottom navigation bar on mobile, while your profile areas are linked from the top menu.

By the way, I am sympathetic to complaints of losing the logo in some areas. I'm also a person who has the habit of clicking it as a way of going back. But the home icon is available in the nav bar by default so I'm hoping that discomfort is only temporary while you get used to it.

It’s odd that half of us perceive a significant change and half of us don’t. Makes me wonder whether we’re not all seeing the same site or whether one group is confused.

  • it definitely looks like its more fitting for the phone devices than desktop.

  • @CuddleMeLater
    I'm easily confused.
The first firework I bought said "Light the blue touch paper and retire". I haven't worked since.

@HoneyB94 You don't need to use the dark theme, you can set it to always use light theme in Settings.

By default the website changes between dark and light theme based on your device's current mode. So if your device goes into dark mode at 10pm, CC will then do the same.

  • I just found the "right swipe" on the home page to find the menu. 👍

The reason the Logout link was moved to Settings is because we're trying to discourage it's frequent use for mobile users. When push notifications are enabled for some of you in a future update, logging out will interrupt that setup.

I'm interested to know the various reasons why people like to regularly logout of the website when using their mobile? Unlike some desktop situations, I would have thought you'd typically be the only user of your device.
