  • beyond thinks will save them from their misery.

Sounds like a rather cynical view of relationships. Granted, balancing yourself with another person without losing either takes work and failure is quite painful. Still I find that problems ignored just move elsewhere. I imagine people in relationships with a healthy interdependence are indeed happier.

@lonelybutmaybe You are younger than the ladies discussing relationships, so you and the ladies are at different life stages. However, I would never say certain people are happier than others as that would be a fallacy. I think if you are lucky enough to find your real soulmate and it works it’s wonderful, but if you are eternally happy on your own there is beauty in that as well. With that being said, I admire your optimism and unselfishness. A lady would be lucky to have you as a partner it sounds like.

  • @FunCartel oh for sure, there is a lot of wisdom that I lack. There are definitely people who are happier than others. Heck, my current is self is happier than myself 3 years ago. No, you don't need a relationship to be happy and a bad relationship can definitively be a drain, probably at level that I don't have the experience to imagine. That being said, I feel like if you can encourage someone not to give up you should. At very least, someone who is more or less at my stage of life can see another perspective.

..., I admire your optimism and unselfishness.

Thanks, I kinda feel like I feel pessimistic about this stuff. Maybe I am trying to convince myself otherwise. I don't know about unselfish either. Debates on the exist of true altruism aside, I am just more on the hopeless romantic side of things. So, it's in my best interest for me to see relationships to work. The belief that relationships aren't worth having is adversarial to my view and the belief that they're to complicated to be worth pursuing/maintaining is kinda incompatible. My own bias to believe that relationships usually are worth pursuing/maintaining is well, less true than I'd like. But, I certainly would have a hard time disagreeing with it except in the most obvious cases.

Cuddling, I've discovered, helps me release the "armoring" that I seem to build up over time. It also helps "ground" me, if that makes any sense! lol
In my experience of modern-day culture, it seems like meaningless copulation is like cheap candy---you can now get it on every corner. Cuddling, on the other hand--especially with someone who genuinely enjoys you as a person--- seems rare and precious. For a little while, the insanity of today's world just floats away! :)

Sharing physical contact with another person without the anticipation or expectation beyond platonic cuddling along with a good conversation is the the ultimate connection for me.

  • I really enjoy human touch , and hugging my friends or family is such a positive thing , so cuddling it makes me so happy to have someone wrap me up and hold me close , and just that one on one human interaction, has so many emotional health benefits, I have bad bouts of depression, so in that moment it feels like the storm inside me is calm .
